Chopin Airport. Detained because of the contents of the backpack

During the security check before boarding the plane, ammunition was found in one of the passengers’ luggage. He claimed to be returning from Ukraine and did not know about the contents of the backpack.

A 36-year-old man traveling from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Frankfurt was detained by Border Guard officers. The reason was the contents of his hand luggage. The Colombian, who presented himself for security checks prior to the departure of his plane, had five rounds of ammunition in his backpack. However, he did not have a gun permit.

“He declared that he was a soldier and had come to Poland from Ukraine the day before through the crossing in Dorohusk. He was not aware that he had ammunition in his backpack,” the Nadwiślański Border Guard Unit said in a statement.

The man was detained at the disposal of the officers of the Operational and Investigative Group of the Border Guard Post in Warsaw-Okęcie and released after the completion of the activities. He could continue his journey, but without ammunition.
