The draft government strategy for the aviation industry does not contain a government decision to close Warsaw Chopin Airport, the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy announced on Friday. The document indicates that after the launch of the Central Communication Port, only the main commercial traffic from Chopin Airport will be transferred to it.
According to the information provided by the ministry, access to the STH will take 15 minutes from the Warszawa Centralna railway station.
Chopin Airport is the largest airport in Poland. Last year, over 14.4 million travelers checked in there. In the first half of this year, the capital port checked in over 8.34 million passengers, i.e. nearly 2% of the total. more than at the same time in 2019
Central Communication Port
Central Communication Port is a planned transfer hub between Warsaw and Łódź, which is to integrate air, rail and road transport. As part of this project, 37 km west of Warsaw, in an area of approx. ha, an airport is to be built, which in the first stage will be able to handle up to 45 million passengers a year.
As announced, the STH will also include railway investments: a junction in the immediate vicinity of the airport and connections throughout the country, which are to enable travel between Warsaw and the largest Polish cities in no more than 2.5 hours.
The construction of the Central Communication Port raises great emotions among the inhabitants of the areas where the airport is to be built. The inhabitants of Baranów, located between Łódź and Warsaw, do not trust the authorities. Many of them believe that the money proposed for the purchase of plots is too small. Those who, despite their fears, decided to sell their farms are also dissatisfied.
The CPK is to be launched in 2028 together with the railway junction and the section of the High Speed Railway Warsaw – Łódź. The rest of the CPK railway investments are planned until the middle of the next decade.
