Christophe Deloire, secretary general of Reporters Without Borders, has died. The Frenchman was 53 years old. The organization assessed that during the 12 years of its management, Deloire made it one of the most important international associations working for media freedom.

Christophe Deloire has led Reporters Without Borders (RSF) since 2012. The cause of death was rapidly progressing cancer, the organization announced in a statement.

Reporters Without Borders emphasized that Deloire, during 12 years of leading RsF, made it one of the most important international associations working for media freedom.

Reporters Without Borders defends the freedom, independence and pluralism of journalism. They regularly publish reports on the observance of press freedom in various countries around the world.

The organization has the status of a consultative body, among others, at the UN, Unesco and the Council of Europe. It publishes an annual report, the Press Freedom Index, on the situation of the media in 180 countries around the world.
