The District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk will investigate the accident on the national road No. 10 in Cierpice (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) on August 23, as well as possible irregularities during the inspection of the scene. It turned out that the services did not notice the body of a man in one of the wrecks. His body was not found until the next day, when the car was already parked in the police parking lot.
The tragic accident took place on August 23 this year on the national road No. 10 in Cierpice near Toruń, on the section between the Toruń West and Bydgoszcz Południe junctions. A passenger car, a bus and a truck collided. According to the police that day, one person was killed and three were injured. The next day, however, the officers received information that one more person might have stayed in the loading part of the bus. Her body was found in a crashed carwhich was already standing in the police parking lot.
The case of the accident in Cierpice will be investigated by the Gdańsk prosecutor’s office
The Toruń prosecutor’s office submitted a request to designate another unit to investigate possible irregularities during the inspection of the accident site to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk. – The case was referred for examination by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk – Marzena Muklewicz, the spokeswoman for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk, informed on Tuesday.
Grażyna Wawryniuk, a spokeswoman for the Gdańsk District Prosecutor’s Office, said that this unit was conducting both proceedings: both concerning the circumstances of the accident and the assessment of the correctness of the services’ operation during the inspection at the scene. – In both cases, the proceedings are pending. First, the prosecutor had to read the collected material, but the next steps have already been ordered, said Wawryniuk.
Five officers were suspended, including the deputy chief
How could such an oversight come about? Junior insp. Monika Chlebicz, a press officer of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian police said on August 26 that three people who traveled by bus after the accident claimed that there was no one else in the vehicle. They were to convey this message not only to the police officers, but also to other services operating at the scene.
After receiving this information, most probably none of the service representatives – there were not only policemen, but also firefighters, and the activities were supervised by the prosecutor – did not even open the door from the loading part of the car, where many tools and building materials were transported.
– Five officers of the Road Traffic Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Toruń, including the deputy head, were suspended from their duties. Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against them. It will be conducted by the Provincial Police Headquarters in Bydgoszcz – said Chlebicz at the time. When asked about this issue on Tuesday, she emphasized that nothing had changed in this matter. In her opinion, there were certainly irregularities, but the prosecutor’s investigation will decide who has not fulfilled his duties. Most likely, the oversight of the services had no impact on the victim’s condition. – The preliminary opinion of the expert after the autopsy is that the man’s multi-organ injuries indicate death on the spot – reported Jarosław Kilkowski from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Toruń three days after the accident.
