The Kanlaon volcano erupted in the central part of the Philippines, throwing a huge column of ash into the sky. Residents of nearby towns were ordered to evacuate.

The Kanlaon volcano is located on the island of Negros and is its highest mountain, rising to a height of 2,465 meters. It is one of the 24 active volcanoes in the Philippines. Its second eruption this year occurred on Monday.

The ash cloud ejected by the volcano rose to a height of four kilometers. Dust covered several nearby towns. Volcanic rocks shot into the air fell up to three kilometers from the volcano.

Fifteen villages within a six-kilometer radius of the crater were ordered to evacuate. About 87,000 residents should leave their homes.
