State institutions must perform their functions. Today, the prosecutor's office is doing this. It is returning to cases that were tried to be swept under the carpet – said Agnieszka Pomaska, MP of the Civic Coalition, in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 about the arrest of former MEP Ryszard Czarnecki. Zbigniew Bogucki from PiS said that diplomas at the Collegium Humanum university, which is the subject of the whole case, were received by people associated with various parties.
Agents of the Central Anticorruption Bureau detained Ryszard Czarnecki on Tuesday afternoon. The information was provided by the spokesman for the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Jacek Dobrzyński. “At the same time, his wife Emilia H. was detained in Warsaw,” he said in a statement.
He added that “the proceedings conducted jointly with the CBA and the branch office of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice concern Collegium Humanum”. According to unofficial findings by tvn24.pl journalist Robert Zieliński, the politician's arrest is related to his wife's work for the university. Investigators suspect that she did not provide any real services, and in this way the rector paid off the services of an influential politician.
Pomaska: Prosecutor's Office Returns to Cases That Were Attempted to Sweep Under the Rug
This issue was discussed in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 by Agnieszka Pomaska, MP of the Civic Coalition, and PiS MP Zbigniew Bogucki.
– We know that there is a new prosecutor's office that is starting investigations, but “Newsweek” wrote about this case already in 2022. It described in detail the style of corruption that prevailed at this university. In 2022, the prosecutor's office was under the rule Zbigniew Ziobro and all matters inconvenient for the then authorities were simply swept under the carpet – said Pomaska.
– This has been happening for the last eight years and today, first of all, we have restored the normal functioning of state institutions: the prosecutor's office, all offices, institutions that supervise the functioning of the state, and I emphasize – supervise – regardless of whether someone is from the opposition or the ruling party, whether they were in the ruling party or are currently in the opposition. State institutions must perform their functions, their role and today the prosecutor's office is doing this. It is returning to matters that were tried to be swept under the carpet – she continued.
The MP stressed that “no matter will be swept under the carpet”. – It was in 2016 that the principle was introduced by law that an MBA diploma entitles one to sit in State Treasury companies, on supervisory boards of State Treasury companies. And this is the genesis of the problem – added the KO representative.
Bogucki: people associated with various parties received their diplomas at this university
Zbigniew Bogucki said that in this case one should wait for possible decisions of independent and impartial courts. – Because as for the prosecutor's office, this prosecutor's office has nothing to do with independence and impartiality – said the MP.
– At this university, diplomas were received by politicians, people associated with Law and Justice, and the Civic Platform, as well as other political circles. If these diplomas were issued in a manner inconsistent with the law, then these people should be held accountable. If there were people who participated in this illegal procedure and there is evidence of this today, then these people should be punished – he continued.
Bogucki also referred to the words of a PO MP who stated that MBA diplomas obtained at Collegium Humanum “were needed by people associated with the previous government to sit on supervisory boards of State Treasury companies”.
– Perhaps you have just twisted the whip on the backs of your colleagues who have degrees from the Collegium Humanum and now sit in State Treasury companies. I already have over a hundred people, your assistants, politicians, councilors – we will present them – who are already Tusk's fat cats – added the PiS politician.
