Air quality standards were significantly exceeded in Bogotá on Wednesday. The high concentration of pollutants was caused by a fire that broke out on Monday in the Cerros Orientales hill region. The authorities appealed to residents of the capital to wear N95 masks, i.e. half-masks that filter particulate matter, when leaving their homes.

– The use of N95 masks is recommended. You should cover your nose, eyes and skin with them. People should avoid physical activity outdoors, especially in the morning and evening, and especially those who have breathing problems, said Juan Felipe Segura of Universidad Ean.

Adriana Soto, who serves as Minister of the Environment, recommends the use of public transport and proper vehicle maintenance to improve air quality in Bogotá.
