This is the result of eight unexplained deaths that occurred in the city of Medellin between November and December 2023. As reported, death was probably related to drug intoxication in all cases, and in several cases the criminals used popular applications. The embassy emphasized that at the moment there is no indication that the cases are related.
The BBC indicates that one of the victims was Tou Ger Xiong, a 50-year-old from Minnesota who was on vacation in Colombia at the end of November. He was abducted and murdered by a group of men after he arranged to meet a woman he met online.
