– A commission to investigate Russian and Belarusian influence is necessary – emphasized Deputy Minister of Justice Krzysztof Śmiszek from the Left, running for the European Parliament, in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24. He stated that the commission established during the PiS government was a “legal Frankenstein”. According to another candidate, current PiS MEP Adam Bielan, Prime Minister Donald Tusk “is not a good person to hold anyone accountable for Russian influence.”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk informed that wissued an order establishing a commission to investigate Russian and Belarusian influence on internal security and interests of the Republic of Poland in the years 2004-2024. He also said that the chairman of the commission will be General Jarosław Stróżyk and that the first report on its work is expected after elections to the European Parliament.

This matter was discussed in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 by candidates for the European Parliament – the current MEP PIS Adam Bielan and the current Deputy Minister of Justice Krzysztof Śmiszek from the Left.

– I think that, first of all, Prime Minister Tusk is not a good person to hold anyone accountable for Russian influence, because he was the most pro-Russian politician over the last quarter of a century. It was Donald Tusk that the Russian press called “the Russian man in Warsaw”, it was Donald Tusk who hugged Putin on the pier (in Sopot – ed.), it was Donald Tusk who went to Moscow – said Bielan.

– Tusk after Putin's speech in Munich, when Putin announced the reconstruction of the Russian empire in 2007, after the Russian invasion of Georgiaafter many murders of journalists in Russia he invited Lavrov to a meeting with Polish ambassadors. He allowed Polish secret services to sign a cooperation agreement with Russian secret services. He allowed the Russians to accept the Polish energy company, i.e. Lotos, he added.

Śmiszek: this commission is necessary

According to Krzysztof Śmiszek, the establishment of such a commission is necessary because “we have a threat from the East.”

– Such a commission is needed, such a commission is necessary. Because recent events, especially those concerning Mr. (former – ed.) Judge Sz. or other events, show that the secret services need to be strengthened, he said.

– That is why, first of all, after PiS closed 10 ABW branch offices, these branch offices will be recreated in 10 places. We need to take care of the safety of Poles. Secondly, there is funding for special services with PLN 100 million. And thirdly, it is very clear today that the services during the times of Law and Justice were engaged in stupid things. Or in other words – very serious matters such as spying on the opposition, spying on independent prosecutors, spying on social activists – he continued.

He talked about what, in his opinion, was behind the establishment of a similar commission during the PiS government.

– What was the commission supposed to be during PiS times? Some kind of political entity, some legal, extra-corporal Frankenstein, which was supposed to be a judicial body, an investigative body, a prosecutorial body, which in the end was supposed to deprive specific opposition politicians of their civil rights. The idea was to target specific people from the opposition, argued Śmiszek.
