On a forest road in Potępa in the Silesian Voivodeship, a passenger car left the road and fell into the river. Firefighters pulled the car ashore with a winch and had to use hydraulic tools to open it. Unfortunately, the bodies of two men were discovered inside. The police are establishing their identities and the causes of the accident.
The accident happened on Friday around 1.40 am in the village of Potępa in the Tarnowskie Góry district,
On the forest section of the poviat road (Tarnogórska Street), a passenger car left the road for unexplained reasons and fell into the Mała Panew River. Two men in their 40s who were traveling in the car died.
– The causes of death of the people in the car are not known – Kamil Kubica, a spokesman for the police in Tarnowskie Góry, told us at night. “We will be identifying these men,” he said Friday morning.
Firefighters used a winch and hydraulic equipment, divers searched the river
17 fire brigades were working on the spot, including a specialized diving unit from the headquarters in Bytom, as well as a specialized technical rescue team from Dąbrowa Górnicza.
As reported by the junior midshipman Maciej Świderski from the district headquarters of the State Fire Service in Tarnowskie Góry, when the firefighters arrived on the spot, the car was lying on the roof in the river, and only the wheels were sticking out of the water.
Firefighters pulled the car ashore with a winch and opened it using hydraulic devices. They pulled the bodies of the men out. Divers searched the river to see if more people were injured in the accident. They found no one.
The road was closed for more than four hours.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. He does not rule out that difficult road conditions: fog and slippery surface could have contributed to the tragedy.
