Conflict at the National Bank of Poland. Paweł Mucha vs. president Adam Glapiński. Katarzyna Kotula and Paweł Kowal comment

Paweł Mucha, a member of the management board of the National Bank of Poland, published letters to members of the Monetary Policy Council, in which he alleges, among other things, that “copies of the minutes of the MPC meetings are not made available to at least some members of the NBP management board.” He added that “in practice, the activities of NBP bodies involve significant and key violations for the functioning of the central bank.” The NBP Management Board found Mucha’s behavior “unacceptable”.

The dispute is only about prizes and bonuses, that is the whole truth. The rest is just fog and directions. It’s trivial, but there is no division or conflict, argued Adam Glapiński at Thursday’s press conference.

It’s boiling at the NBP. What is the conflict at the central bank about?

The case was commented on in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 by Katarzyna Kotula from the Left Club and Paweł Kowal from the Civic Coalition club.

– A member of the Monetary Policy Council, Mrs. (Joanna – ed.) Tyrowicz, has said several times, and I have pointed it out publicly, that President Glapiński is dramatically violating the constitution. This is not a joke. President Glapiński is officially the independent head of the bank, but in fact he does not deal with what the head of the central bank does, i.e., for example, monetary policy, said Paweł Kowal.

– He’s in the business of helping PiS in every possible way and is part of this system. He should be considered as someone who violated the constitution, because he constantly violates the constitution. He is the problem of Polish democracy. I believe that we need to look for all possible ways to remove it, continued the KO politician. And he added: – He is responsible for it inflation in Poland to a large extent. He is responsible for the poverty of Polish families. It’s not like he lives on the moon.

Katarzyna Kotula, assessing the actions of the NBP president, said that “Mr. Glapiński must simply leave.”

– We knew, it was especially visible before the campaign, i.e. during the Law and Justice pre-election campaign and during the Law and Justice election campaign, that Mr. Glapiński simply enrolled the central bank in the Law and Justice election campaign team – she said.

– And today, interestingly enough, the president’s man Andrzej Duda, i.e. Minister Paweł Mucha, (…), comes out and speaks openly and boldly. This is also a signal – added the MP. In her opinion, this may be an element of an internal war in the right-wing camp over their legacy Jarosław Kaczyński, in which – according to her – the president was also involved. At the same time, she stated that “there must be some consent from the president to what Minister Mucha is doing today.”
