According to the spokeswoman for the White House Karoline Levitt, Trump's conversation with Putin was to start at 10 local time (16 Polish time). So far, none of the parties has confirmed the start of the conversation.
After the phone with Putin, Trump will also call the president Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelanski.
During the press conference, before the talks of leaders, Leavitt said that President Trump was open to a meeting with Putin. On the same day, the Russian agency RIA Nowosti quoted the spokesman of the Kremlin Dmitry Pieskow, who said that the meeting between Trump and Putin is not prepared.
Earlier, Trump talked to European leaders
On Tuesday, the US president had a telephone conversation with the leaders of Italy, France, Great Britain and German. On Platform X, the head of the Italian government Giorgia Meloni wrote on Monday that she had a conversation with Trump together with the prime minister of Great Britain Kerem Starmer, President of France Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“First of all, I wanted to repeat support for Ukraine together with European and Western partners, for the efforts of President Trump in favor of just and lasting peace in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of immediate and unconditional suspension of weapons,” said Melons.
A spokesman for the British Prime Minister Keira Starmer said that the leaders talked about “the situation in Ukraine and the catastrophic costs of war for both sides.”
Chancellor Merz wrote on the X platform in the consultation summary: “Putin must agree to suspension of weapons and peace conversations.” He announced continuing to exchange views.
