Coronavirus: Alarming rise in cases in Balkan country

From 12 to 18 August, the country recorded 271 new cases of COVID-19 patientswhich means an increase of 60.4% compared to the previous week. A total of 608 samples were tested in laboratories, which is an increase of 33.3% – according to a report by the Macedonian Institute of Public Health.

COVID-19: Alarming increase in cases in North Macedonia

“The sick were registered in 17 municipalities, and the highest number of cases occurred in Skopje – 152” – the document added. Cases were recorded in all age groups, most in people over 60 years of age. During this period, due to coronavirus infection one person died.

Given the increase in cases, the Commission for Infectious Diseases of North Macedonia has issued recommendations on basic measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

North Macedonia's Minister of Health Arben Taravari said after the Commission meeting that special attention should be paid at this stage avoiding crowds, regular airing of rooms and taking care of personal hygiene.
