In July, traffic in shopping malls increased by five percent month on month. There were also more customers in the centers compared to July 2020 – the Polish Council of Shopping Centers reported. She added that there is an interest in traditional trade as well as in entertainment and gastronomy.
Data of the Polish Council of Shopping Centers (PRCH) indicate a growing interest in brick-and-mortar shopping. A month ago, the PRCH reported that the June result was the best result in 2021.
“The results of shopping center footfall according to the PRCH Daily Footfall Index in July 2021 confirm the growing interest in brick-and-mortar shopping since the last lockdown, which ended on May 4. The number of visitors is steadily growing” – PRCH reported in a press release.
Traffic in shopping malls in July 2021
The PRCH Daily Footfall Index was created to monitor the number of customer visits in shopping centers since the beginning of the pandemic. As PRCH explains, it shows the current number of visitors on individual days of the month.
As PRCH explains, data is collected from camera systems located in shopping centers, counting customers with an accuracy of 98%, on a constant sample of shopping centers. “Comparing the results with the corresponding periods in previous years allows us to identify the current trends and analyze the current situation. The study also applies to the previous months of the year” – indicated.
According to PRCH, weekly footfall is around 82-87 percent. compared to the 2019 results.
According to PRCH, comparing July 2021 to July 2020, “you can see an upward trend”. “In the first week, shopping centers were visited by 8% more people than a year ago in the same period, and in the remaining weeks of the month the results range from 103 to 107%. This shows the growing interest of customers in returning to stationary shopping as well as entertainment and gastronomy in centers” – handed over to the PRCH.
The PRCH analysis shows that by 5 percent. footfall in shopping centers increased compared to June 2021, “which means that customers keep returning to stationary shopping in shopping centers, despite the ongoing holiday season”.
Stationary shopping – traffic in shopping centers is growing
The best day for traders – just like in June – turned out to be Saturday, July 10 – then the centers were visited by an average of almost 17,000 people and it was 12 percent. better result than on the same day before the pandemic, in 2019.
As reported by PRCH, increases in the number of visitors to the centers were recorded in all regions of Poland. In July 2021, compared to 2020, the number of visitors in the central region increased by 12%, in the East – by 8%, and in the South-West by almost 7%.
PRCH reported that there was an increase in visits to very large centers with an area of over 60,000 sq m GLA (gross leasable area). In July, it was 115 percent. compared to the previous year. Similarly, in very small facilities (with an area of 5-20 thousand sq m), there was an increase in responsibility by 14%.
The managing director of PRCH, Krzysztof Poznański, admits that he is still concerned about the slow progress of the vaccination program and the danger of another wave of pandemic.
– PRCH appeals to both the public and the authorities to accelerate the vaccination process. We pay attention to the need to achieve collective immunity through mass vaccination, but at the same time we ask you to follow the safety rules, DDM – distance, disinfection, mask, because customers often forget about the still existing risk of further diseases and freezing the economy – said Poznański, quoted in the press release.
