Shanghai authorities began a massive COVID-19 study on nearly everyone in the city on Saturday. It happened 10 days after the end of the severe two-month lockdown. In some neighborhoods, people are not allowed to leave their homes again.

Authorities ordered a massive survey of residents of 15 of Shanghai’s 16 boroughs, and five boroughs were banned from leaving their estates during the testing period, Reuters reported. There have also been many reports of block closings being closed in recent days.

Shanghai, considered the richest city Chinafor two months he was in lockdown due to the wave of variant infections coronavirus Omicron. Most countries in the world have eased restrictions after a large percentage of the population had been vaccinated, but the Beijing government remains committed to a “zero COVID” strategy and is committed to complete eradication of the virus.

The lockdown in Shanghai was officially lifted in early June, but residents’ enthusiasm quickly faded as it became apparent that they had to huddle in long lines every 72 hours for screening tests. A negative test result and a green “health code” in the application on a mobile phone is required when entering public places.

– Endless COVID-19 tests are not to confirm my health, but are my exit ticket. It’s ridiculous, Shanghai resident Helena Shu complained to the South China Morning Post. Many residents, including foreigners, declare their intention to leave the city in connection with the “zero COVID” strategy.

The specter of another lockdown

New infections detected and another round of mass testing raise fears that the city-wide harsh lockdown may return. Similar unrest lingers among the 22 million inhabitants of Beijing, where local officials say an “explosive” outbreak has been detected in a bar in central Chaoyang District.
