More and more children with COVID-19 end up in hospitals – doctors from the University Children’s Teaching Hospital in Białystok are alarming. According to the director of the facility, medics are also ill. – This week, 25 percent is missing. of the entire staff – emphasizes director Anna Wasilewska.

Due to the growing demand, the hospital in Białystok increased the base of “covid” beds in the children’s ward to 72. According to the hospital, most children are hospitalized for two, three or four days, and then they are discharged home. More patients take their place.

– In the last week, we see a clear increase in terms of the disease COVID-19 in children – says prof. dr hab. Anna Wasilewska, director of UDSK in Białystok. And he adds: – We have 72 beds contracted for children. About 25 children are currently hospitalized. Fortunately, the course of the disease in children is fairly mild in most cases. Most often it is a very high fever, dehydration, cough. After hydration and administration of antipyretic drugs, most children can be discharged home on the second day.


More and more sick children, less and less doctors

There is still a large bed reserve in the hospital, but the director of the facility notices that the situation is getting more and more difficult. Another problem is that the hospital staff are sick. – Many people are ill, this week there is a lack of 25 percent. of the entire staff, and in the case of nurses and doctors, it is over 30 percent. – Wasilewska enumerates. And he adds that in-house doctors and interns help, and thanks to this, it is possible to secure the functioning of the hospital. However, there is still a shortage of specialist doctors. 829 people work in the hospital, and 190 of them are in quarantine and sick leave.

53,420 infections

Research has confirmed 53,420 new cases of coronavirus in Poland. This is the highest daily result since the beginning of the pandemic in Poland.

The detected cases concern people from the following voivodeships: Mazowieckie (8524), Śląskie (8042), Wielkopolskie (4583), Małopolskie (4557), Dolnośląskie (4423), Pomorskie (3722), Łódzkie (3499), Lubelskie (3001), Podkarpackie (2785) ), Kuyavian-Pomeranian (2204), West Pomeranian (2120), Warmian-Masurian (1579), Podlasie (1259), Opole (1219), Świętokrzyskie (984), Lubuskie (649).

The ministry said that 270 infections are data without specifying an address, which will be supplemented by the sanitary inspection.

The Ministry of Health reported that 62 people died due to COVID-19, while 214 people died due to the coexistence of COVID-19 with other diseases.
