The guests of “Facts after Facts” talked about the COVID-19 epidemic, the number of coronavirus infections and the tests performed. – We are not yet out of the fourth wave, and we are already entering the fifth – said Magda Wiśniewska, doctor of medical sciences. Dr. Aneta Afelt from the Interdisciplinary Center for Mathematical and Computational Modeling of the University of Warsaw pointed out that “our testing status is far from sufficient” and “we do not have a real overview of the epidemiological status”.
Until Wednesday in Poland confirmed 4,373,718 coronavirus infections SARS-CoV-2, of which the Ministry of Health informed about 30,586 new infections that day. So far 966 cases of infection with the omicron variant have been reported. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 103,062 people suffering from COVID-19 have died in our country.
Dr. Aneta Afelt from the Interdisciplinary Center for Mathematical and Computational Modeling at the University of Warsaw and Dr. Magda Wiśniewska, head of the Temporary Hospital in Szczecin, talked about the current epidemic situation in “Faktach po Faktach” on TVN24.
Dr. Wiśniewska: We are doing very few tests, so we will show few infections
According to Dr. Wiśniewska, “from the very beginning it was necessary to put a lot of emphasis on the vaccination program”. – Second, to adhere to recommendations, some kind of restrictions for unvaccinated people or for those who do not have fresh tests, she said.
According to the doctor, “we can say that we have a low number of infections, but the number of infections is due to the number of tests performed.” – We do very little of them, so we will also show few infections. On the other hand, we actually see in hospitals that we have not yet come out of the fourth wave, and we are already entering the fifth – she added.
Dr. Afelt: The reported values for the coronavirus infections are far from the actual ones
Dr. Afelt concluded that “our testing state is far from sufficient”. – At the moment, we do not have a real overview of the epidemiological status in the country. We are in the declining wave when it comes to the presence of the delta variant in Poland and at the same time we are already in the process of accelerating the input wave of the omicron variant – she said, adding that “the omicron variant has a very high infectivity”.
In her opinion, “those infection values which are currently reported as confirmed are far from the actual values.” The expert assessed that “these data do not bring us closer to the actual state, which should be assessed as at least four or five times higher”.
