Air traffic is recovering after months of collapse. In September, the average daily number of air operations at Polish airports was 1,849 flights, according to the data of the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency. Last month, this year’s record for the number of operations performed in one day was recorded. LOT Polish Airlines has the largest market share, ahead of Ryanair.
In September, the number of air operations at all Polish airports amounted to 29,614, which means an increase by 50%. compared to the same period in 2020. At that time, the number of air operations amounted to 19,766. The result is still lower than in 2019. The number of air operations at all Polish airports in September 2019 amounted to 41 319.
The data show that in September this year. the average daily number of operations at Polish airports was 1,849 flights. For comparison, a month earlier, there were 1,898 flights. August was the first month in 2021 when the average daily number of flight operations exceeded 1,800 flights.
September’s data is better than last year. In the corresponding period of the previous year, the daily average was 1,142 air operations. In September 2019, there were 2,933 flight operations.
PANSA noted that every day in September this year. 1,700 air operations have been exceeded. “The busiest days in the previous month were those in which 2000 operations were exceeded: September 17 (2069 operations), September 10 (2064 operations), September 24 (2037 operations), September 3 (2032 operations) and September 12 (2000 operations)” – we read in the report. On Friday, September 17, this year’s record of one-day air operations was set.
Airports in Poland
The most air operations were performed at Warsaw Chopin Airport – 11,354 flights. For comparison, in 2020 and 2019 it was, respectively, 7,572 and 17,474 flights. This means that there was an increase of 50 percent compared to last year.
Also on the podium were airports in Kraków – 4,006 operations and Katowice – 3,496 operations. The airport in Gdańsk was placed just behind the podium – 3,196 flights. The largest increase in operations on an annual basis was recorded in Modlin – by 79 percent and in Katowice – by 76 percent.
A decrease of 40 percent year on year appeared in Zielona Góra. In September, 61 flights were made at this airport.
Flights from and to Poland – airlines
The most flights in Polish space in September this year were performed by LOT Polish Airlines – 8,325 flights. The national carrier can boast of 15 percent. market share. Irish Ryanair came second with a market share of 14%. and the number of 7,768 flights performed.
Hungarian Wizz Air was on the lowest step of the podium – 4,995 flights, 9 percent. participation. The top five was completed by Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines – 2,119 flights each, which corresponds to 4%. market share.
“The above-mentioned carriers handled 46% of air traffic, which constitutes 25,326 flights in Polish space,” the report reads.
