Professor Krzysztof Simon from the Medical University of Wrocław, commenting on the new restrictions in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24, said that “the Medical Council strongly recommended a more aggressive and more restrictive procedure”. He also referred to the words of the presidential minister Andrzej Dera about vaccines and new variants of the coronavirus.
Presidential Minister Andrzej Dera said in Polsat News that vaccines work against viruses that do not mutate, and a vaccine that keeps up with mutations has not yet been invented. “This problem is about the flu and the coronavirus,” he said.
Presidential minister talks about vaccines and mutations. Professor Simon: these are absurd
Professor Krzysztof Simon referred to these words in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24, head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Hepatology at the Medical University of Wrocław.
– These are absurd. There are certain laws of biology and medical science that has been known for about a hundred years. It is known that RNA viruses, and this is such a virus, are constantly changing, new variants appear. And they appear because we do not stop the transmission abruptly. If everyone was vaccinated, everything would be interrupted, there would be no such problem. Since there is a population all the time where he mutates for a longer or shorter time, these sensitive strains are dying and new ones appear – he explained.
He said that there are no vaccines that are 100% guaranteed, but the most important thing is that they protect against a severe course of the disease.
Professor Simon was also asked about the words of President Andrzej Duda, who said that knowing the attitude of Poles, he could not imagine, “that compulsory vaccination could be introduced in Poland “.
– Either you choose freedom and agree to the ruin of the economy, to the death of hundreds of people a day or you use duress, as in many countries, and vaccinate, saving, in solidarity with other people – explained the TVN24 guest.
Prof. Simon on limitations: it’s a bit of a dusting of reality
Professor Krzysztof Simon also referred to the new restrictions that had been in force since December. They are related to the sealing of borders and more restrictive limits of people, including in restaurants, shops and shopping malls, cinemas, theaters, as well as gyms and fitness centers.
“The Medical Council strongly advocated a more aggressive and restrictive approach, as have many other countries,” he said.
He said it was good that the government was introducing additional restrictions. However, he added that from his point of view “it is insufficient”. “This is, from my point of view, a bit of a dusting of reality,” he added.
He pointed out that it is most important to follow the basic rules related to limiting the spread of the virus. – Keep your distance, wash your hands, use a good mask and demand that others do it – he urged.
