Doctor Konstanty Szułdrzyński, a member of the Medical Council at the prime minister, commented on TVN24 on Saturday on the latest reports on coronavirus infections in Poland. He advised to protect oneself and others by vaccination, among other things. “First of all, I would advise you to be an adult, and an adult is the one who does not pretend that reality is different than it is,” he said. He estimated that if the mortality rates were similar to those in previous waves, “700-800 deaths a day in roughly two weeks could be expected.”
Member of the Medical Council at the Prime Minister, Dr. Konstanty Szułdrzyński from the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw, told TVN24 what he would advise to do to stop the spread of the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. – First of all, I would advise you to be an adult, and an adult is the one who does not pretend that reality is different than it is. If we see these numbers, it doesn’t mean that someone is paying television to tell the truth about the pandemic, it really is. Therefore, you need to protect yourself and your loved ones – he said.
How many deaths can we expect?
– Of course, it is never too late to be vaccinated. I think that those who wanted to get vaccinated have already got vaccinated – he said and encouraged them to take advantage of the third dose of vaccination, which significantly increases immunity.
He estimated that if the mortality rates were similar to those in previous waves, “700-800 deaths a day in roughly two weeks could be expected.” – The real number of people infected is about 4-5 times higher, that is, we have between 70 and 80,000 infections a day, of which roughly one percent of people have died so far. I hope that the vaccines here will change the statistics significantly – he added.
Szułdrzyński on the words of Morawiecki
Doctor Szułdrzyński also commented statement by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki about how “the various restrictions, penalties and restrictions that are implemented there are not very effective in Western Europe”.
“From a medical point of view, I cannot quite agree that the restrictions, especially the requirement for covid passports, were not effective, as they caused some countries to have immunization rates of almost 90 percent, compared to our 52 or 53,” he said. – At the same time, being an adult, I am aware that power is governed by moods – added a member of the Medical Council operating at the prime minister.
“We’d have to close schools for the next three years”
Doctor Szułdrzyński also commented on the situation in schools. He was asked if the Medical Council recommends switching to distance learning. “We recommend vaccinations all the time,” he replied. – Here the attitude of teachers is quite disappointing, who until now, in my opinion, a simple-minded and maybe naive man, were the intellectual elite of this country. Of these, less than 70 percent were vaccinated, he said.
– The data at my disposal shows that, however, a very large part of these infections that lead to the need for hybrid or distance learning are, however, infections among teachers. That is why they are also picked up more often, because teachers, being older than their students, suffer more severely from the disease – he explained.
Doctor Szułdrzyński also noted that he was not in favor of closing schools. – We have already been through this and the costs for the children are enormous. Moreover, seeing the reluctance of the public to vaccinate, we would have to close these schools for the next three years, because those who passed the infection last year will have a decline in immunity. They will probably go to the hospital next year and next year, so it would be a very long perspective. It is better that these schools are open for as long as possible – added the TVN24 guest.
