Coronavirus infections are increasing. More than 1,200 new infections were confirmed on Wednesday. Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said that “we have crossed the barrier of the fourth wave”. How is the current situation compared to the same period last year, when the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic began? The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday o 1,234 new and confirmed cases of coronavirus infection. Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said on Radio Plus that “this is a clear jump from week to week”. He stressed that “we have crossed the barrier of the fourth wave”.

On Tuesday, on Twitter, the head of the Ministry of Health drew attention to the comparison of the number of infections from September 2020, i.e. the beginning of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and 2021. “The diverging trend lines show how vaccines work. It is worth adding that today we are dealing with a more infectious mutation of the virus” – wrote Niedzielski.

September 1, 2021 was confirmed 366 cases of coronavirus infection, and in 2020 there were them on the same day 550. September 7 was recorded 406 infection, and in the past year this day was recorded 302 cases. On September 14, the number was announced 537 new SARS-CoV-2 infections. Last year, September 14th was also theirs 377. September 21 stated 711 infection, and in 2020 on the same day 748. September 26 was recorded 643 cases of coronavirus infection, while on the same day last year there were them 1584. On September 27 it was reported about 421 cases, while last year 1350.

Last year, September 29 was reported 1326 infections.

Number of people hospitalized in Poland in September 2020 and 2021

In September last year, in the comparable days, as can be seen in the chart, there were definitely more people hospitalized due to COVID-19. On September 1 this year, he was in hospitals 475 people. Last year on the same day – 2138. On September 14 this year, it was reported about 782 hospitalized people, while a year earlier – Fr. 1972.

According to data from Wednesday, he is in hospitals 1566 people. Last year, he stayed there on the same day 2399 patients.

Number of respirators seized in September 2020 and 2021

The situation is different in the case of the number of people connected to the ventilator. Since mid-September, the number of such patients has been increasing and it is higher than in the corresponding period a year ago. For example – on September 17 this year, the number of people under respirators was 101, while last year on the same day – 84. On September 23, the number of occupied respirators was 133, while a year ago – 89.

According to the Ministry of Health report published on Wednesday, they are connected to a ventilator 174 persons. Last year, on September 29, it was theirs 141.
