The politician admits that in the spring he was not convinced to vaccinate. Now he has changed his mind and is calling for vaccination. – I would not like others to experience what my family is like – he adds. However, when asked whether restrictions should be introduced due to the epidemic situation in the country, he replies that “we cannot shut down a second time”.
The PiS MP from Zielona Góra talked about the painful moments he went through this year. At the turn of March and April he suffered from coronavirus infection, his wife died in the hospital. He reported that when he was hospitalized, the doctors told him it was “a really acute infection.”
The deputy about the death of his wife: I saw her cry, and I could not do anything
After four days, his wife was also hospitalized, also infected with the coronavirus. Doctors said her condition was very serious.
– I found out that they took my wife for oxygen therapy. Get up to say hello to her? It was not an option at all – continues Materna.
The politician managed to leave the hospital after some time. His wife had three operations. The MP with tears in his eyes says that it was in the hospital that he “kissed his wife for the last time”. – I saw her cry, and I could not do anything – she recalls and adds that she died on April 4.
– The further it gets worse. I feel relatively healthy physically, I work a lot, I try to do my best – he says.
PiS MP: my only choice was that I need to get vaccinated
Jerzy Materna admits that when he was hospitalized in the spring, he was not convinced to vaccinate.
He explains what prompted him to take the coronavirus vaccine after some time. He took the second dose in early October. She says she realizes that vaccination alone does not protect against infection, but makes the disease much milder. – My only choice was that I have to vaccinate myself, (…), we know that there are new varieties, but vaccination helps – she emphasizes.
He also points out that the more people get vaccinated, the greater the chance that the health system will survive the fight against the pandemic. – Our health care system has been underfunded for many years, most of all there is a shortage of doctors – he notes.
PiS MP: I do not wish my worst enemy anything similar
Speaking about the need for vaccinations, MP Materna emphasizes that social awareness is needed in Poland.
– The more freedom, the more responsibility there should be for all of this. It is worth considering ten times. In fact, I am not free, because I live in a society – said the PiS MP.
– This is a strange world, but I hope the better one will come – he adds.
The MP says that the most important thing is to get vaccinated, so as not to lead to the failure of the health service.
– We are a community, we must respect each other. I would not like others to experience what my family was like. This year is so difficult and tragic for me, I do not wish anything similar to my worst enemy – adds the politician.
Asked whether further restrictions should be introduced in connection with the intensifying fourth wave, the PiS MP says that “we cannot shut down a second time”. He also points to the social aspects of isolation. – If we imprison someone, or ban (something – ed.), It may be a rebellion, even among our electorate. The point is that we should respect each other – he argues.
Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said at Monday’s press conference that “we are somewhere at the height of the fourth wave “. He also announced that new restrictions would be introduced from December 1.
The average number of confirmed daily infections, calculated on the basis of data from the last seven days, has increased to almost 23.3 thousand and is the highest since April 6. This means that the current, fourth wave of the epidemic in Poland has reached the level of almost 91 percent of infections recorded at the height of the second wave, and just over 80 percent of what happened at the worst moment of the third wave.
