The Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday 16,590 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection. The ministry also said that 282 people suffering from COVID-19 have died. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,230,634 infections have been confirmed in Poland, a total of 79,161 people have died due to the coronavirus. The number of patients in hospitals is at its highest since May 11. The number of patients treated with ventilators is at its highest since May 20.
According to the Ministry of Health’s announcement, the highest number of new infections was confirmed in Mazowieckie voivodship – 3213.
The remaining cases concern the following voivodeships: Lubelskie (1830), Małopolskie (1303), Śląskie (1101), Dolnośląskie (1085), Wielkopolskie (1014), Kujawsko-Pomorskie (1006), Łódzkie (1001), Pomorskie (976), Warmińsko-Mazurskie (787), Podlasie (724), Podkarpacie (702), West Pomeranian (672), Świętokrzyskie (405), Opole (310), Lubuskie (277).
184 infections are data without specifying the address, which are to be completed by the Department of Health and Safety.
A week ago, the Ministry of Health reported 13,644 confirmed infections. Today’s infection rate is 2,946 higher. That is an increase of 21 percent. The average number of confirmed daily infections, calculated on the basis of data from the last seven days, exceeded 15,000 for the first time since April 19. The average number of daily fatalities reported, also calculated from the past seven days, has risen to 169, the highest since May 24.
The number of active cases, i.e. Poles who are currently infected, is 324,446 and is the highest since April 17.
The ministry said that 282 people died with COVID-19, 212 of whom had comorbidities.
The 282 fatalities reported by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday is the highest daily report since May 19.

Data from hospitals
Tuesday’s epidemic data report shows that:
– 20 203 the beds are intended for patients with COVID-19 (+1081 in relation to the previous day), – of this 14 906 beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients (+783), – 1823 ventilators are designed for patients with COVID-19 (+81), – of which 1270 respirators are currently in use (+66) – 449 589 people are in quarantine (+39 106), – 2 827 027 people recovered (+9 821).
The number of patients in hospitals is at its highest since May 11. Compared to Monday’s report by the ministry, 783 patients have increased in hospitals. During the fourth wave of the epidemic only once, on November 9, this number was higher (789). At the same time, the number of beds in hospitals dedicated to fighting the epidemic exceeded 20,000 (almost 1.1 thousand more than on Monday). 74 percent of them are seized. For comparison, in April, at the height of the Third Wave, the number of patients in hospitals reached 35,000 and beds – 46,000. The number of patients treated with ventilators is at its highest since May 20. Compared to Monday’s ministry report, 66 patients have added to ventilators. This is the highest such daily gain since April 10. 1,823 respirators were prepared for covid patients (81 more than on Monday). 70 percent of them are currently seized. In April, the number of patients on respirators exceeded 3,500, and the number of ventilators assigned to fight the epidemic – 4,500.
More than 500 health care workers have died from COVID-19
On Saturday, the Ministry of Health released data on deaths in Poland due to COVID-19. Among the deceased there are 234 doctors and 193 nurses. 52 dentists, 23 midwives, 19 pharmacists, 6 physiotherapists, 6 paramedics and 5 laboratory diagnosticians – a total of 538 healthcare workers – also died.
