In the Lubelskie and Podlaskie voivodeships, the current fourth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic on Tuesday became the highest since the beginning of the epidemic. In the Lublin region, there are currently over 1,620 infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus daily, in Podlasie – 770. See the data in the charts.
While in the scale of the entire country, the most infections have so far been recorded during the third wave, in the first half of 2021, the second wave was higher in the Lublin region and Podlasie at the end of 2020.
As the data on new infections published daily by the Ministry of Health fluctuate depending on the day of the week, a moving average is used to measure the “height” of the epidemic wave, calculated on the basis of data from the last seven days. Every day, a new report from the ministry is taken into account, and data from a week ago is no longer used. And that’s what matters day by day.
Coronavirus in the Lubelskie Voivodeship
Until yesterday, the highest average value of coronavirus infections for the Lublin region was reached on November 4, 2020, when 1,480 infections per day were recorded. However, on Tuesday, the rate hit 1622, surpassing what had happened during previous epidemic waves in Poland. In the chart below, you can see how the curve has even shot up, because the day before it stopped at 1478. Such a sharp increase is mainly due to the fact that the data from November 2 was no longer taken into account in the calculations. It was the first day after the long holiday weekend, so the health ministry’s announcement did not resemble a typical Tuesday, but a Monday, when the numbers are lowered after the results from Saturday and Sunday.
In the following days of last week – from 4 to 6 November – the Ministry of Health informed successively that 2,110, 2,077 and 1,783 new infections were confirmed in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. This is the first, second and fourth result for this province since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic in Poland.
Moreover, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 64 people suffering from COVID-19 died in the Lublin region. This is the highest such single report in this voivodeship since the beginning of the epidemic in Poland.
Coronavirus in the Podlaskie Voivodeship
When it comes to Podlasie, until yesterday the moving average number of confirmed daily infections did not exceed 723. This value was reached on November 12, 2020. However, on Tuesday, we already had an average of 770 infections a day in the region. Here, too, a significant jump can be noticed overnight, because on Monday the average was 721.
Last week in Podlaskie Voivodeship, reports published by the Ministry of Health brought the three highest number of infections since the epidemic began – on November 4, 1,101 confirmed infections were recorded, on November 5 – 969, and on November 6 – 991.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health announced that 10 more people have died in Podlasie. However, on November 4, the ministry’s communiqué mentioned 43 new deaths. It was the highest result for this province since the beginning of the epidemic.
For comparison, in the scale of the entire Poland, the second wave of epidemics reached a maximum of 25.6 thousand infections confirmed daily, which was achieved on November 11, 2020. In turn, during the third wave, which has been the highest for the whole of Poland so far, the average number of infections was almost 28.9 thousand infections. It was recorded on April 1, 2021. The current fourth wave on Tuesday nationwide is close to 12,900 infections per day.
