Professor Krzysztof Simon, head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Hepatology at the Medical University of Wroclaw, commenting in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 on the dynamics of the fourth wave, said that “this is the natural course of the epidemic that we have had for two years”. He said there would be variation in the severity of infections. As he stated, in the regions “more pro-public, pro-social, patriotic”, there will be fewer infections, because their inhabitants have got vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday 1,325 new coronavirus infections and the deaths of 46 people with COVID-19. A month earlier, on September 5, the ministry informed about 324 cases of infections, and no COVID-19 person died at that time.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Wojciech Andrusziewicz, said that the COVID-19 epidemic is developing the fastest in the following voivodeships: Lubelskie, Podlaskie and Podkarpackie. – About 56 percent of hospital beds are occupied in the Lublin region, 46 percent in Podlasie, and 42 percent in Podkarpacie, the spokesman said.

Professor Krzysztof Simon, head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Hepatology at the Medical University in Wrocław, spoke about the current epidemic situation in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24. He said he was not surprised by the dynamics of the fourth wave. – This is the natural course of the epidemic we have had for two years. There is an exacerbation in the spring, in the fall. We returned home, we are sitting in offices, some (people – ed.) Still do not follow these recommended restrictions, as simple as washing hands, walking distance and a mask – he said.

– However, this is not the scale as someone said somewhere, 30,000 (cases a day – ed.). As a health service, we will not be able to withstand 30,000 cases a day, because after seven days it is 210,000, (…) it is impossible at all for any country, even as large as Poland – continued Professor Simon.

He added, however, that you have to take into account the number of daily infections at the level of 5-10 thousand.

Professor Simon: In pro-social regions, there will be less infections in patriotism

He also said that variation in the extent of infections would persist. – In those more educated cities, larger cities, towns or regions, where the society is more pro-public, pro-social, patriotic, there will be fewer infections because they got vaccinated – he said.

– And where there is 16, 30 percent (in terms of the percentage of vaccinated – ed.), Hospitals are slowly blocking – he added.

Professor Simon also said that in his experience as a physician, many people who are infected now and have not been vaccinated before do not feel at all reflecting that it should have been done. At the leader’s comment that now such persons understand their mistake, he replied: – they do not understand at all.

Professor Simon on additional doses of the vaccine: many people want to boost their immunity

The doctor also talked about the need to take additional doses of vaccines.

“There may be more booster vaccinations every year or two, because unfortunately the virus changes and these individual variants are a little less sensitive to vaccines. It’s good that they can be modified quickly. We don’t know what it will be like. The disease does not give permanent immunity, a maximum of three years, but it seems much shorter – he said.

In his opinion, the third dose of the vaccine, in the case of the Pfizer and Moderna primers, should receive, in addition to the elderly and with weakened immunity, also those working, for example, in the police or municipal police, i.e. people who have frequent contacts with others.

He also reported that as a member of the Medical Council at the prime minister, he proposed that the third dose should also be taken by younger people, under 50 years of age. “If there is no money for it, it will be for a fee,” he added. However, he admitted that this idea had not met with any response so far.

– A lot of people want to get vaccinated and raise their immunity – added the TVN24 guest.
