The deputy head of the health ministry, Waldemar Kraska, released the latest covid data on Tuesday morning. He reported that 19,366 new cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in the last day, 504 people suffering from COVID-19 died.
On Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Health Waldemar Kraska was asked in the WP “Newsroom” about, among other things, at what point in the fourth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic is Poland at present. – I think we are already at the top. It is true that this peak seems to last a little longer, so it will not be a one-off peak, but a plateau, because the data we receive every day has already stabilized – he said.
Kraska on the latest epidemic data
He reported that 19,366 new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in the last 24 hours. – So it is about a percent more than it was a week ago, so this stabilization is visible – he assessed.
He described the statistics on hospitals as disturbing. – During the last 24 hours, there were 826 new people who were brought to our hospitals. At the moment, there are over 23,000 people infected with the coronavirus who are staying in our hospitals. This is a very large number of people – he added. He also said that there are over two thousand people in intensive care units.
Kraska also said that 504 people with COVID-19 died.
Information on the deaths of over 500 people the ministry recently announced on Saturday. The Ministry of Health then informed that 502 people struggling with COVID-19 died and 25,576 new infections were confirmed. However, the previous day, on Monday, the Ministry of Health provided information about 13,250 new cases of infection coronavirus. The ministry also announced that 25 people suffering from COVID-19 have died.
The largest number of new cases in this wave of the pandemic – 29,064, and deaths – 570 – were recorded on Wednesday 1 December.
Professor Szenborn: it is just tragic
Commenting on the data provided by Deputy Minister Kraska on Tuesday, head of the department and clinic of paediatrics and infectious diseases at the University Teaching Hospital in Wrocław, Professor Leszek Szenborn said on TVN24 that these were “very sad data”.
– For us, for doctors, it is simply tragic. If we have a tool and our patient does not want to use this tool to reduce (the risk associated with the disease – editor’s note), it is really tragic. Because in fact, everyone will find out what covid is able to do to him if he gets sick – said the expert. – So: you do not want to get vaccinated, try the disease – he added.
The announcement of the strengthening of epidemic restrictions
On Monday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that on Tuesday or Wednesday the government will present a package of strengthened restrictionswhich “will be tied to a holiday situation in response to the omicron virus mutation.” – Because the state of affairs is really not good – he assessed.
As he noted, “there are many deaths, especially among unvaccinated people”.
The prime minister announced that he would “strengthen vaccination mechanisms and make them mandatory in some professions.” – We will also discuss strengthening exacerbations in some places for unvaccinated people in order to respond to this type of omicron virus, which is probably already in Poland – added Morawiecki.
