The head of PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, was asked in “Fakty po Faktach” about the fourth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic and vaccination against coronavirus. He related these two issues, explaining that “the key to getting through the fourth wave is how many people get vaccinated.” He also assessed that in terms of restrictions for the unvaccinated, “the government plays two pianos”.
On Wednesday, the health ministry confirmed 1,234 new coronavirus infections. This is the highest number of cases reported on a single day since May 26, when 1,267 cases were recorded. The guest of the issue of “Fakty po Faktach” that day was the head of the People’s Party Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
As a trained doctor, he was asked about these numbers in the context of the fourth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic. – The key to passing the fourth wave is how many people will be vaccinated. The more people vaccinated, even if they get sick, the way and severity of covid going through will be much smaller – he pointed out.
– There will not be so many beds in hospitals occupied by covid patients, so all other specialties will work, we will conduct normal diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation, and operations – he calculated.
He explained that “if there are not enough vaccinated people to have population immunity, the risk goes up.” – Here I am afraid that the greatest sin of omission and neglect lies with the rulers in connection with vaccinations. – They did not give a clear directive, there was no clear position of the president, there was no encouragement and cooperation with the Church, especially with the Catholic Church – he mentioned.
He also noticed that the least vaccinated regions “are very closely related to the votes cast for Law and Justice or Andrzej Duda, and with participation in holy masses”. – There the impact would be huge – he argued.
The head of the PSL further mentioned that in terms of vaccination “there was no incentive or mobilization system that would make the passage through the fourth wave much calmer”.
The program also addressed the issue of restrictions for the unvaccinated. Should the government prepare such legislation? “The government plays two pianos here,” Kosiniak-Kamysz replied. On the one hand, he explained, the government “says yes, we want you to get vaccinated, and on the other hand, it doesn’t want to alienate the anti-vaccine groups.”
– What to do to save the situation today? Certainly no restrictions for the vaccinated. I hear from the authorities about the possibility of introducing poviat and regional lockdowns, but they cannot in any way concern the vaccinated people. It would be a kind of vaccination promotion: you are vaccinated, you will not be affected by any lockdowns – he continued.
At the same time, he assessed that “the rulers are afraid to put the matter in this way, because the majority of people who have not been vaccinated are their electorate”. “They didn’t get to him, they didn’t want to convince him, they couldn’t do it,” he said. – Unfortunately, we will all pay for this loss account. It is the patients who will pay, he concluded.
