During the summit of the leaders of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Vladimir Putin said that several dozen cases of COVID-19 had been detected in his vicinity.
During the meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (ODKB) leaders on Thursday, Vladimir Putin said in videoconference format that he “at the last moment” canceled his trip to Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.
– As you know, this is related to the fact that cases of coronavirus disease have been detected in my immediate vicinity: not one and not two, there are several dozen people – he said, emphasizing that he would be self-isolating for several days. He also regretted that “he cannot shake hands with each of the participants in the meeting”.
After the first reports of the self-isolation of the Russian president, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured that Putin was “absolutely healthy” and that the self-isolation would not have a direct impact on the work of the head of state.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, Putin has conducted most of the meetings and conferences online, or in the so-called hybrid format. The president has been vaccinated against the coronavirus. He took the first dose of Sputnik V at the end of March and the second one in April.
According to the Interfax agency, 19,594 new cases of coronavirus infections were registered in Russia in the last 24 hours. 794 people died due to COVID-19. Most of the infected were registered in Moscow, nearly 2,500.
