Other countries are tightening restrictions related to the coronavirus – including Austria and Italy. Diana Nowek, who is studying for her PhD at the University of Economics in Vienna, spoke of a lockdown that will come into effect in Austria on Sunday night. Until now, restrictions only applied to unvaccinated people.

Lockdown for everyone in Austria

Nowek said that only grocery stores, drugstores and pharmacies were open. – All other shops, gastronomy, hotels, services, sports facilities are closed. You can only go out to work, grocery stores, pharmacies and to exercise outside. In all other situations, going out is forbidden – she explained.

– Lockdown differs slightly from previous lockdowns in that schools remain open. It is suggested that children be educated at home, while employees, for example health care services, were taken into account, so that their children could use schools, she added.

Lockdown is expected to last until December 12, when its previous version returns, i.e. for unvaccinated people.

Nowek said most Austrians were in favor of the restrictions, although there were also demonstrations against the restrictions. She also informed that in Austria free and widely available coronavirus tests are available – employees, students in schools and universities are tested every week. “That is why the statistics in Austria are very accurate,” she added. – The Austrians stopped vaccinating at some point because they said “ok, we have free tests, we can do with them” – she said. In Austria, 66 percent are vaccinated. citizens.

Tightening of restrictions in Italy

– Italy is not as advanced as Austria when it comes to restrictions. However, there are also plans to introduce new restrictions – said Sylwia Pruszak, who lives in Italy, who runs the blog “Italy through my eyes”.

She explained that at the moment, anyone who wants to come to Italy or lives in Italy and would like to go to a cinema, theater or restaurant must have a covid passport. Currently, it can be obtained by vaccinated people and those who have taken the test. – The plan is to abolish the covid passport for people who are only tested – added Pruszak.

It is not only the staff that draws attention to this, but also, for example, those who shop.
