President Andrzej Duda took part in providing Ukraine with solidarity aid from Poland – medical equipment to fight coronavirus and vaccines against COVID-19. – I would like it to be a visible sign of solidarity and friendship that Poland is a good neighbor when it is needed – said the president. Earlier, Duda also met with the Archbishop of Lviv, Mieczysław Mokrzycki.

President Andrzej Duda visited the BIOKON logistics center in Kiev on Tuesday, where he participated in the transfer of solidarity aid by Poland, i.e. funds to fight the coronavirus.

– Poland shows its solidarity with Ukraine in a materialized manner – said the president during the official handover of the convoy with medical aid.

Duda emphasized that the whole world, including our part of Europe, is still struggling with the pandemic. He informed that 21 trucks arrived from Poland to Ukraine, transporting 127 tons of medical equipment, medical and protective materials.

He stated that the value of this aid was approximately PLN 18 million. – The aid that came from Poland (…) is already here in this warehouse near Kiev and will soon be given to those in need in Ukraine – said the president.

– I hope that this equipment will help people, help those who fight for the lives of others in Ukraine: doctors, nurses. I would like it to be a visible sign of solidarity and friendship, that Poland is a good neighbor when it is needed. So he is a friend who is real because you meet him in a difficult situation – added Duda.

The president also expressed his hope that the equipment to fight COVID-19 will not be needed for long, but that it will help to defeat the pandemic.

The transport of medical aid for Ukraine from Poland included, among others personal protective equipment, masks, disinfectants, aprons, antigen tests, as well as several respirators. Poland has also donated 650,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Polish aid was organized as part of the Poland-Ukraine Solidarity Convoy coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government Strategic Reserves Agency, Polish Post and the Solidarity Fund PL

Minister of Health of Ukraine: it remains for us to come to the vaccination points

The Minister of Health of Ukraine, Wiktor Liaszko, who was present at the conference, emphasized that the support from Poland is another proof of the Polish-Ukrainian partnership, and the supplied equipment will help Ukraine fight the epidemic.

– Today, after accepting this gift, we, the Ukrainians, are left to come to vaccination points, take vaccinations so that the level of vaccination in Ukraine is at least as high as in Poland – he said.

Meeting with the Archbishop of Lviv, Mieczysław Mokrzycki

Earlier that day, the president met Kiev with the Metropolitan Archbishop of Lviv, Mieczysław Mokrzycki. This was reported by the president’s office on Twitter.

Archbishop Mokrzycki has been the Metropolitan of Lviv since 2008. From 2008 to 2018, he was also the chairman of the Ukrainian Bishops’ Conference. He was also the personal secretary of Pope John Paul II.

Andrzej Duda’s visit to Ukraine

President Duda ended his visit to Ukraine on Tuesday. During it, he took part in summit of the Crimean Platform and in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, as well met with the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the heads of the Baltic states – Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, Latvian President Egils Levitsem and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
