Coronavirus, omicron. The GIS issued recommendations for travelers to countries where a new variant was detected

It is recommended not to travel to Bostwan, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and other countries where a new variant of the coronavirus has been found, until the threat ceases – Sanepid announced on its website on Tuesday in connection with the appearance of the omicron variant .

“It is recommended not to travel to Bostwan, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and other countries where the new coronavirus variant has been identified until the threat is over,” GIS reported.

He recalled that a new variant of the B.1.1.529 coronavirus, called omicron, was identified on November 11, 2021 in Botswana.

“The mutations found and the probable mutation potential are of great concern to scientists and governments,” he warned.

He added that EU member states have decided to impose temporary restrictions on all travel to the European Union from the South African region, including the suspension of passenger flights.

No flights

The Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, announced on Monday at a press conference about the introduction of a ban on flights to 7 countries. The list includes Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. People returning from these countries will have an extended quarantine of up to 14 days.

According to the regulation on air traffic bans, published on Monday evening in the Journal of Laws, from Tuesday, November 30 to December 13, planes will not be allowed to land in Poland from airports located in seven countries in southern Africa.

This ban will apply to arrivals from the Kingdom of Eswatini, the Kingdom of Lesotho, the Republic of Botswana, the Republic of Mozambique, the Republic of Namibia, South Africa and the Republic of Zimbabwe.

The no-fly regulations will not apply, inter alia, to aircraft performing international flights at the request of the Prime Minister, with the consent of the President of the Civil Aviation Authority, for the needs of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland, chartered before the date of entry into force of the regulation.

The prohibition will also not apply to aircraft taking off from airports located in the territory of the countries that have notified the Republic of Poland of the introduction of solutions ensuring that only passengers with negative results of the SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic test will be accepted on board the aircraft.

Omikron – a new variant of the coronavirus

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the global threat from the omicron is “very high”. There are concerns that it may be more contagious than previous strains, and the available vaccines may be much less effective against it.
