The daily number of deaths in people infected with the coronavirus on Sunday is the highest since the beginning of the epidemic.

Among the regions that have recently recorded the highest death rate are Moscow (65 deaths in the last 24 hours), St. Petersburg (59 deaths), Sverdlovsk oblast (46 deaths), Saratov oblast (37 deaths) and Krasnodar Krai (32 deaths).

Despite the alarming data, the Russian authorities are not planning to introduce national restrictions. So some regions started to operate on their own. In Kurgan Oblast, authorities have recommended that those who use them should present an up-to-date negative COVID-19 test or a vaccine passport at cultural and sports institutions.

Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov on Sunday ruled out the possibility of closing schools in the country. “Each region will make a decision based on the epidemiological situation,” he told reporters.

In Russia, only 29.4 percent of people have been fully vaccinated so far. 33.6 percent received the first dose of the vaccine.
