Poland has provided Egypt with over 100,000 doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine. The transport departed from Warsaw to Cairo on Wednesday, the Ministry of Diplomacy informed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the donation of vaccines to Egypt is an expression of solidarity in the fight against the pandemic with Poland’s important partner in North Africa.
“More than 100,000 vaccines against COVID-19 are flying today from Warsaw to Cairo. The donation of vaccines to Egypt is an expression of solidarity with Poland’s important partner in North Africa,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed on Twitter. As emphasized in the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, counteracting the disease and its effects requires efforts at the global level, and in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, equal and safe access to vaccinations is extremely important, which is still missing in many places around the world. Increasing the number of vaccinated people on a global scale is an important step in the fight against a global pandemic, we read.
Vaccines for Egypt
“In Poland, there are currently enough vaccines for all willing citizens, which allows us to share our resources with foreign partners in need. Egypt is another country that Poland supports in the implementation of the vaccination program. The transfer of vaccines to Cairo is not only a response to the reported demand. , but it is also an expression of Poland’s close cooperation with Egypt, which remains among our key partners in the Arab world. The experience of over 70 years of bilateral relations obliges us to further strengthen bilateral relations, including support for the Egyptian authorities in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic “- we read in the release.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the donation of vaccines is a symbolic expression of support and solidarity with the countries of the African continent. As recalled, as part of international solidarity and the fight against the pandemic, Poland has already sent medical equipment and personal protective equipment to the countries of this region, as well as the first batch of vaccines that went to Kenya. Vaccines were also provided, inter alia, to to Vietnam, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Australia and Norway.
“At the same time, development aid projects are implemented, which also help to eliminate the negative effects of the pandemic. In the spirit of such solidarity, Poland is sending COVID-19 vaccines to Egypt today” – emphasized the Ministry of Diplomacy.
