Increasing investment in space means a lot to Poland, I congratulate this decision – said the director general of the European Space Agency Josef Aschbacher in an interview with TVN24 BiS journalist.

The second Polish astronaut in history will fly into space. Poland will spend a lot of money on it. Our contribution to the European Space Agency (ESA) will increase by a total of around EUR 295 million over three years. This is much more than what Poland has spent so far on participation in ESA. In addition, PLN 292.5 million from the budget reserve is to be spent directly on a Pole’s flight into space.

“Investment in space is an investment in the future”

Hubert Kijek, TVN24 BiS journalist, talked to the Director General of the European Space Agency, Josef Aschbacher. – This means a lot for Poland. Poland has made a very significant step up the ladder of ESA member states – he said. – I want to congratulate Poland on this decision, because it will be good for Poland and for Polish society – he added.

The head of ESA emphasized that “space is associated with a very rapidly developing branch of the economy, which is growing faster than other sectors of the economy.” – And an investment in space is an investment in the future. It also means that Poles will work in this area, which is associated with very strong technological advancement, but also with great fascination – he said.

He admitted that astronauts are the most talked about, because “they are something fascinating, inspiring for people.” – But in addition, research is being conducted on space stations, and it is also about technologies that we are developing together with the Polish industry and other industries in Europe. They will be used in many areas of human activity, not only in space, but also on Earth, in agriculture, forestry, navigation, and telecommunications – he emphasised.
