CPK. The CPK company has announced a tender for the design of the air traffic control tower

The company Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has announced a tender for the design of the air traffic control tower of the new airport. Offers can be submitted until June 6, said company spokesman Konrad Maszyk, adding that “it will also be the tallest building of this type in Poland”. The maximum height of the tower will be 105 meters. Preliminary visualizations of the facility should be available in the first quarter of 2024.

The tender is addressed to nine companies and four consortia with which, at the end of 2022, the CPK company signed a framework agreement for the design of facilities supporting the airport (Support Infrastructure Engineering – SIE).

– Until June 6 this year, we are waiting for bids in the tender for the design of the air traffic control tower. Apart from the passenger terminal, it may also be one of the most recognizable objects of the new airport. It will also be the tallest building of this type in Poland.

He added that, according to the assumed schedule, the designer should present preliminary visualizations of the air traffic control tower in the first quarter of 2024.

Flight control tower for the CPK airport

The spokesperson of the company reminded that according to the master plan for the CPK airport, the air traffic control tower will be a high-rise building with a pre-planned operating room for controllers at a height of 90 meters above the apron, and the maximum height of the facility is 105 meters. The exact height of the building will be determined by, among other things: visibility analyzes that will be carried out in the initial design phase.

– The project will be developed in cooperation with the master architect of the airport, i.e. the consortium of Foster + Partners and Buro Happold, which should guarantee architectural consistency with the terminal of the new airport – indicated the spokesman.

He added that under this contract, in addition to the traffic control tower, in the immediate vicinity of the terminal, i.a. the airport operations center, airport services offices and buildings: rescue and firefighting services, airport maintenance and management.

The company selected in the tender will prepare the design of the tower, including its concept, and will also obtain the necessary building permits. The scope of the contract will also include other services related to design, e.g. consultancy during construction works procedures.

Maszyk said that the tallest facility of this type in Poland so far is the 46-meter tower at Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice, commissioned in 2019. The tower at Krakow’s Balice airport is not much less, about 45 meters high. The tallest air traffic control tower in the world is the 136-meter structure at Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia.

Central Communication Port

Central Communication Port is a planned transfer hub between Warsaw and Łódź, which will integrate air, rail and road transport. As part of this project, 37 km west of Warsaw, in an area of ​​approx. ha, an airport is to be built, which in the first stage will be able to handle up to 45 million passengers a year.

The STH will also include railway investments: a junction in the immediate vicinity of the airport and connections throughout the country, which are to enable travel between Warsaw and the largest Polish cities in no more than 2.5 hours.

The CPK is to be launched in 2028 together with the railway junction and the section of the High Speed ​​Railway Warsaw – Łódź. The rest of the CPK railway investments are planned until the middle of the next decade.
