Cracow. Armed robbery of a store. Police: The perpetrator offered to help catch the thief

He allegedly entered the store with a gun in his hand and stole two bottles of vodka and two packs of cigarettes. A moment later he changed clothes and bought matches in the same shop, and a few hours later, already drunk, he offered the police help in catching the thief. A 42-year-old suspected of, among other things, an attack on one of the shops in Prokocim in Krakow was arrested.

Around 1 a.m. on March 26-27 (Sunday to Monday), the police received information about a robbery in one of the shops in Prokocim in Krakow. When they arrived, the perpetrator was gone. Moments earlier, he had terrorized the saleswoman with a weapon-like object and carried out two bottles of vodka and two packs of cigarettes.

A police manhunt began. The attacker was recorded by a surveillance camera. The video showed a man wearing a distinctive bright orange jacket and a balaclava on his head. In his hand he held what looked like a gun.

Police: after the robbery, the perpetrator returned for matches, then drunk he wanted to “help”

Officers noted the way the man held the gun. He indicated that the perpetrator was familiar with her. The interest of the officers was also drawn by a customer who appeared in the store shortly after the incident and bought matches. The search for him began, because according to the uniforms, he could be behind the theft.

Around 3am, police noticed a silver Ford parked outside the shop where the robbery took place.

– A man got out of the vehicle, who, seeing the policemen, approached them, offering “help in catching the perpetrator of the attack.” The police officers immediately sensed a distinct smell of alcohol from the man, and therefore he was identified – informed the junior inspector Sebastian Gleń, the press officer of the Lesser Poland police in the message.

It turned out that in the man’s body there was 1.5 per mille of alcohol, he also had his driving license revoked. He was carrying an air pistol. During the search of his house, the criminals found three more air guns, as well as a bottle of vodka and cigarettes, the names of which corresponded to previously stolen products.

As Sebastian Gleń reported in the message, during the intervention the man boasted to the policemen that he “has shooting skills and they would not stand a chance against him”.

The 42-year-old was charged with robbery, driving without a license and under the influence of alcohol, and possession of a firearm without the required permit. By decision of the court, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, he was temporarily arrested. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

As Gleń emphasized, “the matter is developing”. “Police officers are checking the origin of the illegal weapons and whether the perpetrator has other robberies on his conscience,” the spokesman added.
