Kilometers of files burned

On February 8, 2021, the Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into intentionally causing a fire threatening large-sized property, i.e. the archive building, of an undetermined value.

The fire destroyed two halls where the city stored nearly 20 kilometers of current files. The third of the modern archive halls has survived – it has not yet been put into use.

So far, about 157 running meters of rescued files have returned to the Krakow office. They are sorted and recorded under the supervision of paper conservators.

The archives stored documents that were created in the city hall and its subordinate units, including personal files of former municipal employees, old registration forms, as well as documents from 72 already liquidated municipal units.
