Someone gave eight kittens to the window of life for children run by nuns in Krakow, the Krakow Society for the Care of Animals informed. Activists emphasized that recently there are more and more homeless pets. “This year is extremely hard. The oldest employees do not remember so many donated animals” – we read in the entry.
An unusual situation happened on Thursday in Krakow. Someone gave eight kittens to the window of life for children at Przybyszewskiego Street, run by the sisters of the Resurrection. Employees of the Krakow Society for the Care of Animals (KTOZ) arrived at the site.
“This has not happened yet” – we read in the entry of KTOZ on Facebook.
“Some, giving animals to the window of life, feel morally superior”
The cats went to the Krakow shelter for homeless animals, where they are looked after by specialists. It turned out that the quadrupeds are sick – they have cat runny nose. Although their condition does not sound serious by name, this disease is extremely dangerous for cats.
– In an advanced stage, which is what we are dealing with in this case, cat cold most often ends in death or blindness. It can be said with a high degree of probability that if the animals survive, the effects of this disease will manifest themselves in the future – said Joanna Repel from the Krakow Society for the Protection of Animals in an interview with tvn24.pl.
The representative of KTOZ emphasized that – even though the cats were given to the window of life, and not abandoned, for example, in the forest – their owners certainly did not look after them properly. – Some, giving animals to the window of life, feel morally better than people abandoning their charges in forests or other places, because they hand them over to specialists. But they will still go to the shelter. The only difference is that at least they won’t get hurt, they won’t be hit by a car, Joanna Repel noted.
The scourge of homelessness among animals
Recently, an exceptionally large number of homeless animals have been sent to the Krakow shelter. “It’s hard to believe what is happening. This year is extremely hard. The oldest employees do not remember so many donated animals” – KTOZ activists note in the release.
– On Friday, for example, we drove a long way to the lady who took in an injured cat. The animal had a broken spine, evidently someone had thrown it out of a moving car. The lady took care of him for a few days, but the quadruped’s condition was deteriorating. The cat went to the orthopedic clinic, but there were no prognoses. A decision had to be made to put him to sleep – reports the representative of KTOZ.
Joanna Repel adds that holidays – as well as the period after Christmas – are a period when owners abandon their pets. – They think they have nothing to do with the animal while on vacation, so they abandon it. Once, however, homeless animals came to us every few days, now practically every day. The shelter accepts an alarming number of rabbits, but also a lot of cats and dogs, an activist of the society tells us.
“Remember that through our office you can buy a cheaper castration/sterilization treatment. We help people in a difficult financial situation to cover the costs of such a procedure” – KTOZ employees addressed the animal owners in a message.
