The Civic Coalition may have trouble collecting the number of signatures for his candidate for the Senate. Monika Piątkowska, who became famous for the fact that she left Poland 2050 with a bang, was elected a candidate by the party's headquarters, bypassing local structures. In the ranks of the Krakow platform, the politicians of the tribute to the help of their former friend. A candidate or a candidate from the RIDMO committee called “Senacki Pact” is also to start with the Senate, which has nothing to do with the agreement of the anti-Pisian coalition of KO, the third road and the left.

The last entry on the profile of the Małopolska structures of the Civic Platform was published on January 23, on Thursday. Concerned a speech Donald Tusk during the presentation of the priorities of the Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union. Since then, silence.

Under this silence, however, Bulgocze and boils. And this is because – also on Thursday, January 23 – the National Board of Platforma decided that the candidate of the Civic Coalition for Senator in the Supplementary election in Krakow will be Monika Piątkowska, the president of the Core and Fishing Chamber, associated in the past with SLDPSL and Polska 2050.

Piątkowska has no party ID and – more importantly – it was not recommended by the Krakow PO structures.

A row in the platform for a candidate for the Senate

There were six recommendations of Krakow politicians. They were city councilors Iwona Chamielec and Tomasz Daros, councilors of the Lesser Poland Assembly Patrycja Tocka and Grzegorz Lipiec, as well as non -party Edward Nowak – an opposition activist in the PRL – and prof. Andrzej Matyja, former president of the Supreme Medical Council. Everyone was rejected by the National Board.

– The decision of the National Board is a surprise for local structures. We do not even know why politicians in Warsaw decided about the candidacy of Monika Piątkowska. We deserve an explanation. I hope that we will meet them in the coming days and that this is a thoughtful candidacy – said tvn24.pl Szczęsny Filipiak, a Małopolska councilor and head of the Krakow PO structures.

– Of course it surprised us, the more that we presented as many as six candidates. It can be presumed that this is the result of arrangements with coalition partners, but we do not know the details. We would prefer that the National Board would choose a person representing our Krakow environment – added councilor Tomasz Daros.

“They don't want to collect signatures or promote it”

However, these are mild assessments compared to what we hear from other politicians of the platform unofficially. – It will not be easy choices. Activists approach the collection of signatures not much enthusiastically, not to say that there is no enthusiasm. If someone does not identify with the candidate, they will simply not gather these signatures – we hear.

To register a candidate or candidate in complementary elections for the Senate, two thousand signatures are needed. In practice, some of the complex ones are usually invalid, which is why the party must stock up on their supply – preferably even twice.

We hear similar voices from one of the politicians of the coalition faction. – In the Krakow platform they do not want to collect signatures to Monika Piątkowska or promote it. They are in an extremely difficult situation, because they have been treated badly by the management – we hear.

Exit with a bang

Piątkowska cannot count not only on the loyalty of some KO activists, but also the coalition partner of this group – Poland 2050. To understand this, you should return to the events of spring 2023. At that time, Piątkowska, less than two years after joining the Hołownia party, together with a group of activists left the Polish Circle 2050 in District 20 near Warsaw. And it is not quietly, with a bang and fireworks, publishing in social media a recording, on which we hear that departing activists “cannot agree to put party or personal interest above the interest of the entire democratic community.” Detailed reasons for the secession were not given then or later. In turn, the Polish authorities 2050 issued a statement that the circle of the circle, whose leader was Piątkowska, was the decision of the national board of the party, taken before the publication of this recording.

– It would be hard for me to support a person who, two years ago, left our party just before the election in an unpleasant atmosphere. We are wondering what to do now but we certainly will not change Mrs. Piątkowska – comments the head of the Krakow structures of Poland 2050 in an interview with tvn24.pl, MP Rafał Komarewicz.

We hear from some Krakow politicians that Piątkowska was to start from the KO list in the parliamentary elections in 2023. It did not start. “Maybe the point is that debts have to be repaid,” we hear.

It seems that in Krakow, only … people are completely loyal to the decision of the leadership of the Civic Coalition. – We will remain loyal to the Senate pact and we will support the KO candidate. We had two good candidates from Krakow who were ready to start, but Mrs. Piątkowska's candidacy is acceptable to us – told us Krzysztof Klęczar, the Voivode of Lesser Poland and the head of the Lesser Poland PSL.

“Senate Pact” in Krakow. Nobody knows about him

One of the submitted committees in complementary elections to the Senate in District 33 is KWW “Senacki Pact”. The Senate pact was called the agreement of the largest opposition parties before the 2019 and 2023 elections, when the Citizens' Coalition, the third road and the left decided to jointly create lists of candidates for the Senate. Thanks to this, groups, whose goal was to remove PiS power, did not fight each other and had a better chance – as a whole political organism – to gain seats in individual districts. This tactic has worked – both in the 2019 and 2023 elections – the Senate Pact had a majority in the High Parliament.

Only that KWW “Senate Pact” reported to the PKW before the supplementary elections has nothing to do with the Senate Pact ruling the coalition today. From the politicians of all the parties we talked to, we only heard that nobody knows who is behind this mysterious group. National Electoral Commission He is still analyzing the application, and committees are not yet known.

Monika Piątkowska. Who's that?

Monika Piątkowska is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, a scholarship holder USA. He has experience in the private and government and local government administration.

During the presidency of Jacek Majchrowski in Krakow was, among others Director of the Department of Strategy and Development of the City of the City of Krakow and the Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of the City of Kraków. In the past, she was associated with PSL and Polska 2050. Currently, she is the president of the cereal and sealing chamber in Warsaw.
