The composer and director Stanisław Radwan has died. In the years 1980-1990 he was the general and artistic director of the Stary Theater in Krakow. He was 84 years old.
Information about the artist’s death was announced on Saturday on social media by the National Stary Theater. Helena Modrzejewska in Krakow. “It is with great sadness that we received the information that Stanisław Radwan, a wonderful man, a great Creator, loved by Artists and Friends, a man of extraordinary charisma, and the general and artistic director of the Stary Theater in the years 1980-1990, passed away today,” we read in the statement.
The artist has been associated with this Krakow scene since 1977. He collaborated with the most outstanding Polish directors, including: Konrad Swinarski, Zygmunt Hübner, Lidia Zamkow, Jerzy Grzegorzewski, Jerzy Jarocki, Andrzej Wajda, Krystian Lupa, Tadeusz Bradecki and Krzysztof Babicki.
He was the winner of many awards
He has been awarded many times for his compositions for plays and films, as well as his activities for the benefit of artistic circles. In 2005, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis, and in 2019 he received an honorary doctorate from the Theater Academy. Aleksander Zelwerowicz in Warsaw.

“The greatness of Polish theater in the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century was in the person of Stanisław Radwan. (…) Without his warmth, cordiality, openness and kindness, our world and the world of Polish theater are sad,” wrote the National Stary Theater in Krakow on Saturday .
