Cracow. The man drowned in the Vistula, allegations of failure to help his colleagues

Three men drank alcohol on the Vistula River in Krakow. At one point, one jumped into the water. He swam a few meters, and when he tried to turn back, he began to drown. According to the police, friends of the 41-year-old escaped, taking his phone. The man’s life could not be saved.

The event took place at the end of May in Krakow. The three men met on the boulevards near the Powstańców Śląskich bridge. They drank alcohol. One of them at some point undressed and jumped into the Vistula.

“After swimming a few meters, he tried to turn back, but then he began to sink. When the man was under water, his companions ran away without helping him and without informing anyone about this fact. In addition, one of them took the phone that the man had before entering the water left on the shore, according to the police.

A passerby reported the drowning man to the services. A 41-year-old resident of the Chrzanów district was pulled out of the water, but despite the resuscitation carried out on the spot by paramedics, his life could not be saved.

They admitted to running away

The police began searching for the dead man’s friends. Both were detained one day in Borek Fałęcki. “A 35-year-old and a 40-year-old (residents of Krakow) admitted to escaping and not helping the drowning man. In addition, one of them had a phone that belonged to the 41-year-old. Both men were detained and transported to a nearby police station” – we read in the message.

Both of them were charged with failing to provide assistance to a person in a situation threatening the immediate loss of life, and one of them will also be charged with the theft of a telephone. They face up to three and up to five years in prison, they are placed under police supervision.

Article. 162 of the Criminal Code. § 1. Who a man in a position threatening the immediate danger of loss of life or serious damage to health does not provide assistance, being able to give it without exposing himself or another person to the danger of loss of life or serious damage to health, shall be punishable by imprisonment freedom up to 3 years.
