Radosław Sikorski, MEP of the Civic Platform, referring in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 to the absence of journalists in the state of emergency, said that the Polish authorities believe that “with such an information block they will win the competition in the narratives”. In turn, referring to Angela Merkel’s talks with Alyaksandr Lukashenka, he said that “this is another action of a member state over the head of another member state in matters that concern the entire Schengen group and the entire European Union”.
From September 2, due to the migratory pressure in the border zone with Belarus in 183 localities in the voivodeship In the Podlasie and Lublin regions, a state of emergency is in force. It was introduced for 30 days under the ordinance of President Andrzej Duda, issued at the request of the Council of Ministers. The Seym agreed to extend the state of emergency for another 60 days.
Journalists are not admitted to the area covered by the state of emergency, so they must rely on information from the government and the services.
Sikorski: Lukashenka will step down when migrants become a bigger problem for him than for us
MEP Radosław Sikorski commented on the situation at the border, as well as the actions of the Polish authorities in this matter, in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24.
Referring to the absence of journalists in the zone of emergency, he said that he was “very surprised”. “If there are BBC and CNN correspondents from the Belarusian side of the border, and there are no correspondents from our side, then Lukashenka’s propaganda wins, unfortunately,” he said.
In his opinion, the Polish authorities “believe that with such an information block they will win the competition in narratives.” – Internationally, it certainly does not work, maybe they are calculating that it pays off for internal use. We know that this is the government that is exceptionally sensitive to the posts (of support-editors), obsessively sacrificing the national and health interests of Poles in order to more effectively manipulate public opinion, in particular its own electorate. I don’t think it works this time, ‘he said.
– I made the thesis from the beginning that Lukashenka would withdraw from the operation when migrants became a bigger problem for him than for us. It seems to be happening. Because they did not cross (across the border – ed.) As many as he expected, and the airlines, at the request of the European Union, stopped the supply of migrants. Until now (Lukashenka – ed.) He was undoubtedly in international isolation, as someone who stole the presidential election, as a usurper – Sikorski continued. He recalled that Chancellor Merkel had nevertheless decided to talk to him.
Sikorski on Merkel-Lukashenka talks: these are actions over the head of a member state
In Sikorski’s opinion, Merkel’s action “is another action of a member state over the head of another member state in matters that concern the entire Schengen group and the entire European Union.”
– I believe that the Member States should loyally support the European institutions, that such interventions should be undertaken by the High Representative (EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy – ed.) And by the President of the European Council – Sikorski said.
Sikorski: I appealed to our authorities in September to ask for help from the European Union
The MEP was asked if we would have been able to cope with the border crisis without the European Union. – I appealed to our authorities in September to ask for help from the Union. The Union offered this aid all the time, the Polish authorities rejected it – he said.
In his opinion, “if Poland, instead of pushing away EU aid, had applied for it in September, then perhaps this crisis would not have happened at all”.
Referring to the current position of our country on the international arena, Sikorski said that “in every serious crisis in the post-Soviet area, (…), Poland was a player on behalf of the entire European Union, ideas poured out from Poland and the European Union was going on the advice of Poland “. – And this time Poland not only did not organize the activities of the European Union, but in line with what the PiS president said – as my agency reports – Poland is behaving isolationist at the moment, it is now their official doctrine. So we pretend that the European Union does not exist until this crisis swells so that we have to turn to it or they will arrange it for us – he continued. The TVN24 guest emphasized that “this conflict is not played out on the border only in points, but has its international context”.
