Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met on Sunday morning with Prime Minister Kaja Kallas on the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. This is the first in a series of meetings with European leaders. On Sunday, the head of the Polish government plans to visit Lithuania and Latvia.

Prime Minister Morawiecki arrived in Estonia on Sunday morning, where he met the head of the Estonian government.

Meeting with the Prime Minister of Estonia

The Polish Prime Minister emphasized at the press conference after the meeting that today we are dealing with a new type of war on the eastern border of Poland. – A war in which migrants are weapons, in which disinformation is a weapon, a hybrid war – said Morawiecki.

He pointed out that we are dealing with several growing crises. – The first crisis is a political crisis in which people from the Middle East are used as human shields – emphasized Morawiecki.

Secondly, he added, we are also dealing with an energy crisis, a gas crisis. – Thirdly, we can clearly see, reported by agencies from around the world, Russia’s growing military involvement in this part of Europe, in particular around Ukraine – he stressed.

– We can clearly see that the pressure on NATO’s eastern flank and on the eastern border of the EU is growing. That is why cooperation with our allies is so valuable, as it is here in Estonia today. I would like to express my gratitude to the Prime Minister for the help offered by the Border Guard and Estonian officers who will support our guards in the defense of the Polish-Belarusian border, said Morawiecki.

Morawiecki: we have performed a number of diplomatic actions

He said that “Lukashenko and Putin will try to divide the West, divide the European Union, this is their primary weapon today.” – Therefore, they are trying to artificially cause a humanitarian crisis – he stressed.

In the prime minister’s opinion, this crisis could be overcome quickly. – We are able to finance the return of migrants to their country of origin at any time, we have also carried out a number of diplomatic actions in Iraq and other countries in the Middle East. In order to stop the additional influx of migrants to Belarus – said Morawiecki.

– Our diplomatic actions have been partially successful. Both from Turkey and the territories of Iraq, much less migrants come to the territory of Belarus – he added.

In his opinion, the EU should focus today on those priorities that “emerged on the horizon”, ie security in the East, energy crisis, gas crisis, risks related to the opening of Nord Stream 2.

– We are on the front line in the face of energy and gas threats, but also those related to military security and territorial integrity of Estonia and Poland. I would like to thank the Prime Minister that we understand these risks so well, said the Prime Minister.

Kallas: Poland has done great

– We are very grateful to Poland for defending the external borders of the European Union and NATO – said Kallas after the Morawiecki meeting. – We certainly will not succumb to blackmail by the Lukashenka regime – she assured.

During a joint briefing, Kallas said that she “thanked Poland for protecting the external borders of the European Union and NATO.” – Poland has done brilliantly – assessed the Prime Minister of Estonia.

– Estonia’s security begins at the borders of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia – said Kallas. – We are very grateful to Poland for defending these borders – she added. – We support and support our neighbors, we also help them to cope with the situation, in particular thanks to diplomatic and political support – she said. – We are also ready to offer Poland practical support – she emphasized.

The Estonian prime minister also said that the issue of security in the region was discussed during the meeting with the Polish head of government. – Times are very disturbing, because we do not see any easing of tensions on the border between Belarus and the European Union – she assessed. – Attempts to cross the border are becoming more and more violent, violence is used – she pointed out. “We also anticipate that the pressure on external borders will continue as Lukashenka has not yet achieved his goals,” said Kallas.

– In these very tense circumstances, it is important to exchange information effectively and efficiently – she said. – The allies actively consult at various levels, we exchange information and plan our cooperation in the forums of international organizations – she added.

Morawiecki: The geopolitical situation is very serious

The visits to Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia are related to the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border and the difficult geopolitical situation. “The geopolitical situation is very serious and requires numerous actions and diplomatic efforts. That is why I am embarking on a journey through several European countries to talk about the international crisis caused by the actions of Alyaksandr Lukashenka,” the Prime Minister announced on Saturday in social media.

“In the most important matters, in matters of the safety of Poles, there are no compromises and there is no time to waste – that’s why in the coming week I will visit other European capitals” – he added.

Morawiecki on defending the borders in the spot

The prime minister also posted a spot on social media on Sunday, in which he draws attention to the threat to Europe from Belarus, supported by Russia. It appeals for the unity of the free world and asks to enable Poland to defend the common “European home”.

In the speech “Poland. Defend Europe”, Prime Minister Morawiecki explains that “what looks like an ordinary migration crisis from a distance is in fact a hybrid war that Alyaksandr Lukashenka, with the support of Vladimir Putin, declared the entire European Union”.

“This is a political conflict created for a specific goal, which is to destabilize Europe for the first time since the Cold War 30 years ago,” noted the head of the Polish government.

Later in the speech, the prime minister says: “In recent weeks, we have gathered clear evidence that it is the Belarusian regime that is bringing migrants to the border who intend to reach the west of Europe.” And he emphasizes that “today, the first goal is Poland, but the next ones will be Germany, Belgium, France and Spain”.

“The crisis is already affecting the whole of Europe today, because each of us feels the rising energy prices resulting from the drastic reduction of gas supplies to European countries” – says Morawiecki and warns that “this is just the beginning – dictators will not stop”.

“Poland will do everything to stop the evil. It is impossible to blackmail” – assures the prime minister, who recalls how in history Poland defended Europe against totalitarianism, how it defended European borders long before the creation of the EU and NATO.

Prime Minister Morawiecki ends his speech with a call: “I appeal to all people in the free world: Poland, Lithuania and Latvia need your solidarity.” The head of government also expresses his thanks to all those who have so far supported Poland’s actions on the border with Belarus. I extend my gratitude to the European Union, the European Commission, the United Kingdom and the United States.
