Russia is ready to help solve the migration crisis on the border between Belarus and the EU, if “anything depends” on it, announced President Vladimir Putin. He also stated that “the West is trying to pass responsibility to Russia for the situation that has arisen.” According to the well-known Belarusian opponent, Pavel Latushka, the Kremlin is using the crisis for its own purposes.
Putin spoke about the migration crisis in the TV show “Moscow, Kremlin, Putin” 1.
– When we hear accusations made against us, I would like to say to everyone: take care of your internal problems, do not transfer your own cases to anyone that should be resolved by your respective ministries – he announced.
He then added: “but we are ready to help in any way to regulate the situation, if, of course, something depends on us.”
Accusation against the West
Putin repeated his assurance that Russia “has no connection” with the situation on the Belarusian border. He explained that there were political, military and economic aspects to it. In his opinion, Western countries are “to blame for this crisis themselves”. “They themselves created the conditions for thousands, hundreds of thousands of people to go to them,” he said.
Putin also announced that he did not discuss the situation on the Belarusian border with its leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka, but learned about it from the media. – It was only when this crisis appeared that we spoke to Lukashenka on the phone twice – he said.
Russia as the “winner”
Famous Belarusian opposition activist Paweł Latuszka said on TVN24that Putin is using the migration crisis for his own ends. – Because Putin, through Lukashenka, a useful idiot, actually implements his scenario. The first is to irritate Europe, the second is to reduce the weight of Lukashenka, said Latushka, opponent of the Minsk regime and former Belarusian ambassador to Poland.
According to the Latvian Minister of Defense, Artis Pabriks, Russia is the most important winner in the migration crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border. “Because Lukashenka and his regime have become an instrument in her hands,” said Pabriks, quoted by Delfi.
In his opinion, the Russian leadership is using Belarus to divide the European Union, create threats at the EU’s borders and try to “get something”. The Latvian minister quoted a recent statement Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who expressed Moscow’s readiness to act as a mediator in negotiations to resolve the migration crisis.
