In “Kropka nad i”, former interior minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz commented on the crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border and the related extraordinary session of the Sejm. He wondered why Poland did not join NATO under the procedure of article 4. – This is where the procedures start. They mean that NATO has its own independent assessment capacity, he said.

According to information from Polish authorities and services and videos posted by them in social media, on Monday a large group of migrants gathered on the border between Belarus and Poland, near the border crossing Kuźnica Białostocka-Bruzgi, attempting to cross the border by force. The Ministry of National Defense informed the same afternoon that the Ministry of Interior and Administration services and soldiers had managed to stop the first mass attempt to cross the border. The migrants set up a camp in the Kuźnica region. They are guarded by the Belarusian services.

Therefore, an extraordinary session of the Sejm is held on this matter on Tuesday. The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Mariusz Kaminski, said there were approx 2-4 thousand migrants.

He wondered why Poland did not apply to NATO under Article 4. – Let me remind you that these are not only consultations. The procedures then start there. These procedures mean that NATO has its own independent assessment capacity, he said.

The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of either of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened.

According to Sienkiewicz, “what is hovering over this discussion is, on the one hand, helplessness and the assertion that it may last for a very long time, i.e. we will not actually deal with it, and on the other hand, doing everything so as not to get any external help,” so that no stranger would observe PiS’s actions on the border. ” “It does not inspire confidence,” he emphasized.

“In such a crisis, you need to have as many friends as possible with you”

The KO deputy assessed that “this policy of self-isolation of Poland in the face of this crisis is deadly.” – I am trying to guess what are the reasons for this self-isolation, why the government is trying so hard that no stranger would come to help on this border, God forbid, – he said.

In his opinion, “either they (the Polish authorities – ed.) Are so trusting in their strength, then it is a fundamental sin, because in such a crisis you need to have as many friends and helpers as possible, or PiS treats it as very convenient a political tool inside Poland “. “I wish the latter were not true,” he added.

State of emergency

Since the spring, the number of attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian border with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland by migrants from the Middle East, Africa and other regions has increased sharply. The EU and its member states emphasize that this is the result of the deliberate actions of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime, which instrumentally uses migrants in response to sanctions.

From September 2, due to the migratory pressure in 183 localities in the voivodeship Podlaskie and Lubelskie, adjacent to the border with Belarus, a state of emergency is in force. A dam is to be built on the border with Belarus in the first half of 2022.

When reporting on the events at the border, the media can use almost exclusively official government recordings and information. Journalists have no access to the area under the state of emergency.
