On Monday evening, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki held a videoconference with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte and Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins – the office of the head of the Polish government informed on Twitter. The subject of the meeting was the situation on the border with Belarus.
On Monday afternoon, the Polish Ministry of Interior and Administration informed that the services had prevented the migrants’ attempt to force their way to the Polish side of the border south of the border crossing with Belarus in Kuźnica. On the same morning, recordings were circulated on the Internet, showing a group of at least several hundred migrants, which, according to official information – the media cannot operate in the border area due to the state of emergency – headed for the Kuźnica-Bruzgi border crossing and intended to enter territory of Poland. As indicated by the Polish authorities and services, these attempts were repulsed.
The Baltic states – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – expressed their solidarity with Poland regarding the situation on the eastern border with Belarus.
Videoconference of the heads of governments of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia
On Monday after 7 p.m. the videoconference between Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte and Prime Minister of Latvia Krisjanis Karins began. Government spokesman Piotr Müller previously informed about the meeting between the leaders of the countries that are directly exposed to illegal actions by Belarus.
Later that evening, the prime minister published a post on Facebook in which he wrote that “our consistent stance of opposition to Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s blackmail on the Belarusian border with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia has received strong support from the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.”
“In the face of aggression and the use of suffering people as living shields by the Belarusian regime to conduct its bandit policy, we should unite in solidarity both in Poland and in the entire European community,” wrote the head of the government. For the Territorial Defense Forces, the police, soldiers of the Polish Army and other uniformed services.
The crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border
Due to the situation at the border the address was delivered by the Marshal of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek. In a television speech, she stated that the largest attempt to date of unlawful, massive and violent violation of the integrity of the eastern border of Poland and the European Union had begun. – A very large group of migrants, formed and led by the Belarusian services, reached the vicinity of Kuźnica Białostocka. We were faced with the greatest migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, she said.
In the afternoon, the Ministry of National Defense posted a recording on Twitter showing how a group of migrants is destroying border security, throwing at them, inter alia, with logs, and one man cuts the wire with scissors. Officers use gas against people crossing the border.
A conference on the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border was held at the National Security Bureau on Monday afternoon. Earlier on Monday under the leadership of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki took place crisis staff, who discussed the current situation on the Polish-Belarusian border with the participation of, inter alia, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński and the heads of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense.
On Monday, there were also meetings of the Presidium of the Sejm and the Council of Seniors, which approved the motion to convene extraordinary session of the Sejm on Tuesday. It will take place at 4 p.m.
