This hybrid war, which we are affected by, is intensifying – said Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau, who on Monday took part in the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the European Union countries. After the talks, he admitted that he was “satisfied with the unity when it comes to understanding the situation of the countries on the eastern flank of the EU, especially Poland and Lithuania.” As he added, “we recognize that Lukashenka is acting as a substitute for his principals in these matters.”

The foreign ministers of the European Union met in Brussels on Monday. In the morning, they adopted new criteria for sanctions against Belarus in connection with the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. The list of persons and entities subject to sanctions is to be adopted later. It will include people and entities responsible for the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. According to unofficial information, sanctions are to be imposed on around 30 people and entities involved in bringing migrants to Belarus. There was also a demand in Brussels that the airport in Minsk, to which planes with migrants arrive, should be covered by sanctions.

Minister Zbigniew Rau: I am satisfied with the scale of natural support

As Rau said after the meeting, during the talks no one objected to the necessity of another sanction. – This hybrid war with which we are afflicted is getting worse. The second point is that the source that led to the imposition of the sanctions, namely electoral fraud and later repression of civil society, has by no means disappeared. More than 800 civil society activists and journalists are still imprisoned by the Lukashenka regime and we do not see any signs of progress here, explained the head of Polish diplomacy.

Rau was asked whether the sanctions would be directed against airlines offering migrants flights to Belarus. – We established and raised the issue myself that although (…) we recorded significant progress in terms of abandoning such practices by many airlines, since this process of extinguishing departures from the Middle East to Minsk has not been completed, we should continue to work on this fragment sanctions – he explained.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs admitted that he was “satisfied with the unity when it comes to understanding the situation of the countries on the eastern flank of the EU, especially Poland and Lithuania.” – I am satisfied with the scale of natural support – he said.

As he added, EU partners understand that “this hybrid war is directed primarily against us, because we and the Lithuanians strongly supported and support civil society in Belarus, all those who strive for fair, democratic elections. “.

Rau: Nobody doubts that Belarus would not be able to carry out such an action alone

– The subject of our discussion was the hybrid war launched by Belarus. On the other hand, as far as I know, as my colleagues think, no one doubts that neither politically, logistically nor conceptually, the Belarusian regime itself would not be able to carry out such a long and comprehensive action – emphasized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

– We are aware of the fact (…) that it is a part of a larger whole, a larger picture of the deterioration of the security situation in our part of Europe. We remember about the threat to Ukraine and we recognize that Lukashenka is acting as a substitute for his principals in these matters, added Rau.

The Visegrad Group gave “political support”

Rau also spoke about the talks between the Visegrad Group foreign ministers. – Colleagues unequivocally took a position on two issues. He will give us political support in the current situation, when we are struggling with a hybrid war on our border, and they have made a decision that whenever Poland asks for assistance other than political – whether it concerns equipment necessary at the border or support by militarized units – they are waiting for to such a signal and we should expect a satisfactory response – he said.

“During the break of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union, I met with my counterparts from the V4 (Visegrad Group). The fruitful conversation concerned the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border. The foreign ministers of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary assured of their support for Poland,” he wrote earlier. on Twitter Zbigniew Rau.
