This is the aggression of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, not Turkey. We know perfectly well that as long as there is a demand in the Middle East for such flights, there will be private companies and various regimes that will help, and these people will come – said Jakub Kumoch, the head of the President’s International Policy Bureau. In this way, he commented on Turkey’s decision to ban the sale of tickets to Belarus for citizens of three countries.

On Thursday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Turkey released the sale of tickets is prohibited for citizens of Iraq, Syria and Yemen going to Belarus. As a result, Turkish Airlines will not accept nationals of these three countries on board its flights to Minsk, with the exception of holders of diplomatic passports. In turn, the Belarusian airline Belavia informed on Friday that citizens of Iraq, Syria and Yemen flying from Turkey will not be accepted on board its flights from November 12.

The European Union and the United States do not rule out imposing sanctions on airlines that deliver migrants from the Middle East to Belarus, from where they then try to cross the borders to the EU. The European Commission said on Thursday that the EU will seek to “blacklist” airlines carrying migrants to Belarus who later try to cross the EU border. Talks on the sanctions will be held on Monday at the level of foreign ministers and perhaps at an extraordinary session of the European Council in the form of a videoconference, which was requested by the head of the Polish government.

Kumoch: this is Lukashenka’s aggression, not Turkey’s

– Turkey is our important partner, an important ally, so we thought it appropriate to ask the Turks to present some proposal that would prevent the escalation. For over two days there were discussions in which I took part at the request of the president. There was also a conversation between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zbigniew Rau, and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu. The European Commission conducted separate conversation channels, said the head of the presidential International Policy Office.

In Kumoch’s opinion, the Turkish proposal seems to be “rational”. – There are a few questions for her, for example, what if new migration directions emerge, apart from Syria, Iraq, Yemen. The Turkish side suggests that in such a situation the list may be expanded – said the minister.

– Let’s be clear, this is aggression by Lukashenka, not Turkey. But we are not naive, we know that smugglers will find other routes, for example through Moscow – this is already partially happening, because Turkey was not the main route. We know perfectly well that as long as there is a demand in the Middle East for such flights, there will be private companies and various regimes that will help, and these people will come – noted Kumoch.

Kumoch: this is an attempt to test the endurance of the defense of the Polish border

The head of the presidential International Policy Bureau expressed his conviction that at some point Lukashenka would understand that he was unable to finance this crisis any further. – Several dozen kilometers from the camp site there is an airport that Belarus could start using by organizing flights home for migrants, which I encourage you to do. If only Belarus wanted to solve the problem. Unfortunately, Lukashenka’s regime does not want to solve the problem, emphasized Kumoch.

He stated that the Polish authorities also had reasons to claim that “the attack on the border is not an ordinary humanitarian crisis, but an attempt to test the strength of the defense of the Polish border.”

– We can see that pressures involving Russia have been going on for several days. Russia has adopted a confrontational and active attitude in this crisis. He is no longer able to pretend that he is not part of it and is determined to escalate the border. Meanwhile, Poland is not in conflict with Belarus, much less is it in conflict with the Belarusian nation. Poland is a victim of an attack by an undemocratic regime, which is also a regime against its own nation, said Kumoch.

According to the minister, if Poland were to let migrants across the border, it would lead to a much greater humanitarian catastrophe, as it would cause an even greater influx of migrants from different regions of the world.

State of emergency on the eastern borderPAP

The state of emergency at the border with Belarus

Since the spring, the number of attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian border with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland by migrants from the Middle East, Africa and other regions has increased sharply. The EU and member states emphasize that this is the result of the deliberate actions of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime, which instrumentally uses migrants in response to sanctions.

Since September 2, due to the migratory pressure in the border zone with Belarus, 183 localities of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie voivodeships have been under a state of emergency.

Journalists have no access to the area covered by the state of emergency. When reporting on the events at the border, the media can use almost exclusively official government recordings and information.
