Deputy Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk said that the conversation with Lukashenka was “an individual initiative taken by Angela Merkel.” “It is her own responsibility. We believe that it involves many risks,” he added.

– We knew about it in advance that there would be such a conversation. We expressed our opinion about the risks associated with this conversation. We had a direct relationship from partners about what was the subject of this conversation. However, doubts about these risks, as to whether this conversation may bring any effect, remain – said Szynkowski vel Sęk.

Byrt: It is a pity the prime minister did not call Merkel and agree on a position

The second guest of the program, Andrzej Byrt, former ambassador to Germany and France, former deputy minister of internal affairs, said that “Merkel spoke with Lukashenka for sure after far-reaching consultations within the European Union and after sounding a position that probably indicated the sensibility of making a decision on dialogue” .

– If the deputy minister says that we knew earlier that such a conversation would take place, it is a pity that none of the high officials of the Republic of Poland – and the prime minister is the partner of the chancellor – did not call her (…) and did not agree on a position, before it is spoken in this bilateral conversation, he added.
