A magnitude 5.5 earthquake was recorded on the island of Krk in Croatia. According to local media, quite strong tremors were felt along the coast of the country.

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded off the island of Krk in Croatia on Thursday morning, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said. According to preliminary data, the hypocenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers, and the epicenter – 4 km east of the coast of the island of Krk and 36 km southeast of Rijeka.

“House was shaking”

According to local media, the earthquake was felt along the entire Croatian coast. On the EMSC website, residents shared their reports of the event. “Short but strong. The house was shaking,” one user wrote. “Awful sound, felt shaking,” added another.

The tremors were also felt by the inhabitants of Zagreb, located more than 120 km from the island of Krk, as well as the inhabitants of neighboring Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
